Sac could have cut it to 3, but fumbled at the MSU 5.
31-21 Bobcats with about 5:30 left.

Football always takes a back seat when it comes to family no matter who's playing. Thoughts to you and your family.SDHornet wrote:Looks like I'm missing this game...my dad just called and we just had a death in the family.

31-21 final. MSU goes to 2-0, 4-1; Sac falls to 1-2, 2-3.

Re: #4 MSU vs #25 SAC
I was fairly impressed with Sac. They are getting to be a good team, and if some of the mental errors are cut out they will be tough to beat. I would think that Sac deserves a 15-25 ranking, but instead they will fall out of the polls. That isnt right. Honestly EWU, Sac, and Weber are all top 15 teams despite their records. The griz? who knows, they probably are also deserving of a top 25 ranking, but just not as high as they will be on Monday.
Re: #4 MSU vs #25 SAC
Sac St. is a very quality team, Fleming is sensational great daul threat abilities and his recieving core is big and strong, not to mention their whole team is really fast. If they cut out mistakes they can run the board on the rest of their games and possibly get into the playoffs this year.Northcoast wrote:I was fairly impressed with Sac. as far as EWU goes they also have a quality team, but i'm not sure even the mighty grizzlies could pull off a ranking with a 1-4 start, Weber is on the bubble with me. one minute they look really tough then the next they're laying an egg.

Re: #4 MSU vs #25 SAC
And thanks for the condolences guys. My grandma in Mexico passed so I was scrambling around SD County rounding up my parents and an aunt and shuttling them to TJ to catch an afternoon flight to GDL.
As far as the game is concerned, I was able to listen to quite a bit of it. Our kicking game has to be the worst in the BSC, so that will be a liability going forward. However we finally showed up for a road game and had we executed near the goal line we would have won this game. We caught some bad calls by the zebras but that always happens when BSC teams visit the state of Montana. The bottom line was the execution wasn't there to win this one. Having said that the toughest part of our schedule is behind us and we still control our own destiny. With 4 of 6 at home, we need to win out (we can probably lose 1 more but then it would come down to a committee decision which isn't a good thing). The season is far from over.

lets just stop this line of thinking right now, the refs were horrible and had bad calls that hurt MSU as well as SAC.SDHornet wrote:And thanks for the condolences guys. The refs cost us TD. Top that then we can talk.cats2506 wrote:lets just stop this line of thinking right now, the refs were horrible and had bad calls that hurt MSU as well as SAC.SDHornet wrote:And thanks for the condolences guys. I'll add a disclaimer that I have not seen any video of this game but did hear the audio stream of that called back TD. Deadder went up, caught the ball, lost his helmet and was flagged for offensive PI. Sounded like BS to me.

The refs gave you a TD, huge block in the back on our kicker on the KO return at midfield.SDHornet wrote:The refs cost us TD. Top that then we can talk.cats2506 wrote:

What is the point, here, refs never called a single hold on SAC yet we had our DL dragging sac players holding on to their legs.
get over it, the refs were horrible all the way around.

I'm over it. Sounds like gross exaggeration on your behalf, but again I haven't seen any video. Also sounded like the bad calls were more in MSU's favor. Obviously your opinion differs from mine...and always will about this matter.
Re: #4 MSU vs #25 SAC
No exaggeration at all, these refs were a new crew and were horrible, mechanics were horrible, took several minutes to measure and reset the ball, often called a penalty on a number that wasn't even on the field. we had 4th and 4 and running into the punter was called, they counted the 5 yrd penalty off and then tried to set us up at 4th and 10, the white hat was insistent that it should be 4th down? very strange. also, a personal foul is not an automatic first down if the penalty does move the ball past the line to gain.SDHornet wrote:I'm over it. Re: #4 MSU vs #25 SAC
Yea, I don't believe personal fouls are automatic first downs? 4th and 20, ref marks off 15 yards and gives a 1st down to Sac. I'm not entirely sure on the ruling, though. Our LB was jawing off to the ref to get the penalty it sounds like.
Also there "may" have been a block in the back on Sac's KO return TD, I didn't see it. But I was pissing at the time.
On Sac's first scoring drive, they were bailed out of 3rd and long by a phantom PI call when Sac's receiver got tangled up with our DB at the very worst, tripped over his own feet at best.
Still can't believe there were no holding calls agianst Sac all afternoon. At one point, most of the stadium was booing an obvious hold call later in the game because we were sick of not getting any holding calls. It's not too often you see a stadium booing a no-call on holding.
As far as bad breaks for Sac goes, the offensive PI was pretty weak, negated a TD. And there was also a pass to the other side of the endzone where it looked like the MSU DB held the WR pretty badly and it wasn't called. And that roughing the kicker was pretty bogus as well.
And yea, the refs got the down wrong for a second there until the whole stadium had to correct him.
I read it was the first game for this crew, and it showed.

Personal fouls are automatic first downs, but unsportsmanlike conduct is not. If it was actually was just for jawing, though, it should have been unsportsmanlike & not a personal foul.catbob wrote:Yea, I don't believe personal fouls are automatic first downs? 4th and 20, ref marks off 15 yards and gives a 1st down to Sac. This happened to the Griz in Pocatello in, I think, 2003. They had a 4th. & 17 (or something like that) and ISU committed unsportsmanlike. It was then 4th. & 2.

Re: #4 MSU vs #25 SAC
Actually I have been doing some digging, and it looks like it might be a new rule for this year. Personal fouls are always automatic first downs, I don't believe this used to be the case. NFL it is, college and high school it didn't used to be, and I think NCAA changed it so that all PFs are 1st downs now.
Then again, I haven't really found anything concrete.
