Perhaps we should just continue to vote in teams like Villanover because they won a title a couple years ago.... :coffee:
Yeah, you're right. My new Top 10...

Indiana State 2-0 4-1
Norfolk State 2-0 4-1
Jacksonville State 3-0 4-1
Tennessee Tech 3-0 4-1
Duquesne 2-0 4-1
Bucknell 1-0 4-1
Drake 2-0 4-1
San Diego 2-0 4-1
Alabama State 4-0 4-1
Good-looking poll! :-P It will wake the sleeping giants at USD.

Southern Utah is ahead of North Dakota? How is that, did people notice North Dakota just beat them.

Montana ahead of 3-loss Sac State, even though they were handled by the Hornets?

You can play this game all day it seems.

So it's the MVC lead two games into conference play that's so impressive? Gotcha.

BTW, last year after week four YSU and Illinois State were both 3-1 and 1-0 atop the MVFC. :thumb:

And, if I recall, both were ranked because of it.

What's your alternative, homeslice? Or are you just here to throw shit against the wall?

You still have failed to provide a viable alternative.

So the Furples make it into the poll, and Coastal isn't even in the next 10?

That's cool, I guess. Makes total sense.

Stop voting for Liberty, we haven't done anything. Vote for CCU, they beat Furman!

Why? Maine has a head-to-head win. Even if JMU beats them they will still be no worse record wise than the Hens. What happens on the field should count. A head-to-head win and a better overall record make this a no-brainer.

I agree with you there; I think neither Furman nor CCU has done anything to justify a Top 25 ranking (especially Furman compared to CCU). That said, I think it's going to be hard (for me at least) to justify ranking any Big South team heading forward because every win won't ever seem significant.

Seems like UD had too far to fall, and Maine too far to climb, for them to switch places in one week. :twocents:
I know that is what happened, but that is faulty logic. The voters may have been wrong to rank UD so high and Maine so low. Rather than use the on field result to correct their error, they decide that they know better.

Exactly, neither team is overwhlemingly deserving but at least recognize who won when the two teams played, and which one is undefeated against same level and lower competition.

My point is more focused towards Furples, who've done even less to be in the top 25. ;-)

Last I checked Maine beat Delaware by 2 scores.....

Stop slot-voting people and rank the teams. Unless something crazy happened to Maine since Saturday shouldn't Maine be considered better than Delaware. They just proved it on the field.
Polls should be more than who beat who this week. Myself, I take a look at the whole picture and decide if a team (in this case, Maine) is better than another team (Delaware). What we have here is a win by Maine over Delaware on Maine's home turf. Is Maine better than Delaware? Could the outcome have been different at Delaware or, say Philly (neutral field)? Good teams should win conference games at home. Great teams win on the road. Maine showed they are good. Delaware did not hurt themselves with a conference road loss (expected). We'll see if Maine is a great team after this week (at James Madison).

Myself, I try to rank the 25 best teams, not just 25 teams that won this week.

Agreed. I basically start from scratch each week and consider each team's body of work to date.

There are certainly different methods, but your statement above is a little bit of a contradiction IMO. If you consider work to date, you're not really starting from scratch each week. I always believed that you should use your previous week's poll as a starting point, otherwise all the work you did make that poll is worthless. Early in the season obviously there's more wiggle room because your poll is based more on perception than reality, but that's all there is to go on early in the season.

I just don't like to see people be too reactionary week to week. There are teams that historically have great early seasons and shit the bed. Our buddy Jon's team comes to mind. They've had several years where they open the season 5-1, 6-2 only to lose their last 4 games (3 of the last 7 years they've lost their final 4 games). That's where knowing your history certainly helps. Jacksonville State is another one. I don't know how people can keep falling for their routine.

Hen, ANY team from the OVC, MEAC, Patriot or NEC pretty much follow the "Jacksonville State" formula year after year, so should we just not put ANY of them in the poll?

And I hear ya regarding using last weeks poll as a starting point, but I'll use EWU as an example: Preseason #1, so when the Griz beat them in week #2, it REALLY bumped the Griz in the eyes of the voters....since then we've found out that they're really just not that good...so from a "body of work" standpoint, that victory does much less for me than it might have (and did) in week 2. Same with the Griz win over Cal Poly, who've continued to struggle. And honestly, the Griz losing to Sac State doesn't look so hot right now either....obviously as the season goes on you get a better picture of each team's actual ability, but I don't think you can hold regular season "history" over a team's head when it comes to ranking them. If NAU were 5-1, they''d be ranked, despite the fact they might go 0-5 to close the season. As they start losing, they start dropping.

Now, teams with good records from crappy conferences RARELY make it into the top 10 in my poll. They usually have ZERO quality wins, beat up on a weak schedule and then their fans blather on about how wonderful they are (see San Diego & Butler fans in recent years).
