Big Sky football week 5

Post by Wildcat Ryan »

Saturday Oct (yes I said October) 1st

Northern Colorado @ Montana- Despite Montana's troubles, they are still too much for hopeless Bears. Griz win big, and a little life returns to that fanbase.

Sacramento State @ Montana State- This looks to be a great game, Sacramento will be riding high after thier first ever victory over the Grizzlies, but now they are back in hostile territory, and are now facing what many are calling the best team in the Conference. MSU pulls away late

Portland State @ Idaho State- This could be an interesting game as well, both teams coming off road losses, and both will be looking to rebound. ISU will remain undefeated at home.

Weber State @ Eastern Washington- Yep Im picking the Wildcats, Weber State's offense is firing on all cylinders, outscoring thier first 2 BSC foes by a total of 94-38. Mike Hoke continues to make good decisions with the ball, and Weber's running backs, (all 5 of them) are racking up the yards, and unlike previous years Weber is # 1 in turnover margin at +5. Weber's defense is also progressivly getting better, EWU's o-line is suffering from the injury bug, and thier run defense is lacking, which speaks bad news for them, as Weber excells at running the football, Weber's balanced attack will be too much for the Eagles.

NAU- bye

I am 22-5 so far, and strangely enough, 3 of my 5 losses are thanks to Sacramento State

Portland State @ Idaho State-
isu beat unc pretty good but it was a game most of the game, couldnt score a TD at nau. ill take the safe pick.

Weber State @ Eastern Washington-
ewu is 0-4. i cant go against my own school in this one. weber smoked ewu last time in cheney as well. :thumb:

Biggest game this week is Sac @ MSU. Sac is trying to work their way into the playoff picture (when's the last time anybody said that without immediately busting into laughter right after?), and the Cats well are the #4 team in the country.

Normally I would've said Weber @ EWU, but at some point you gotta stop treating the Eagles as a big time game, because well they are 0-4 and fell out of the rankings completely this week. Simultaneously, I could vote for this as the game of the week as well because it is literally the Eagles last stand. Lose this, and the playoffs are out of the picture and it'd be only the 1st day of October.

I think Weber is a terrible matchup for the Eagles. The Eagles have been gashed for what, nearly 590 yards on the ground in the last TWO games? Over 300 to the Griz and 266 to the Cats. They have a quick defense, but the Motnana schools severely exposed them inside the tackles. The Wildcats have the horses to run power football, and an accurate QB to keep the D honest. Then again, the Eagles just haven't had any bounces their way. A few breaks could determine this one. The Wildcats are what +5 in TO margin this year? If the Wildcats win or even tie the TO margin, they win this one, even in Cheney.

Cats Sac could be a shootout. Without a couple of key turnovers, the game last week in Cheney could've gone very differently. Fleming can air it out as good as anybody in the conference, Hilliard is a stud (ripped us apart last year), and their defense came to play last week. But they have been gashed for big points so far this year, and it is looking like Montana might not be the cream of the crop this year. It's hard to judge how impressive their wins have been, but their losses appear to have been to two very good opponents on the road. That being said, the game is in Bozeman, it's homecoming, and the Cats have been able to beat teams in whatever way they want: passing, running, it doesn't matter. The Cats are avering 422 yards of offense (which insanely is only 5th best in the Sky!), but so far have the #1 scoring and total defense. I'm much more comfortable this game is in Bozeman. Assuming the Cats don't turn the ball over more than 2 times, I think we win this one by 2 scores.

Griz will kill NoCo, and for their fans and town's sake, I hope they do. Missoula might literally explode.

PSU/ISU could be a shootout as well. I like ISU at home.

Northern Colorado @ Montana. Keep it clean, boys. No need to pile on.

Sacramento State @ Montana State: BSC Game of the Week! Sac can make this a very interesting game, but the Bobcats play at home and enjoy the talents of the best placekicker in the FCS in Jason Cunningham.

Portland State @ Idaho State - The Bengals were exposed by NAU last week, but they could make it interesting at home. Portland State is due.

Weber State @ Eastern Washington: The Eagles always love to play spoiler to the Wildcats. This is an especially dangerous game on the red carpet, but if Mike Hoke keeps making great decisions WSU takes the road game against the reigning national champs.

NAU- bye: The Lumberjacks survive a trap...

it really is a surprise and very refreshing to be +5 after 4 games. last yr at this point we were like -15. LOL. makes the chances for winning a whole lot better. also our offensive line is our best asset. we have 5 running backs looking good for a reason.

Safe pick? We have not won in Pocatello since 1999.

I think Pocatello just sucks the life out of people not used to it.

I think that's true for a lot of us. 4 of my 5 incorrect picks involved Sac State. I've gotten every one of their games wrong (though I did get Sac's win over UM right in my preseason standings picks), but the only other game I've missed is EWU/SoDak.

Weber 38-27 EWU— Eastern's injury situation is likely too horrible for them to win this.

Portland St. 33-28 Idaho St. — I'm betting PSU's pass defense is better than ISU's run defense.

NoCo 14-41 MontanaThe Griz defense will pin their ears back against the zero-dimensional Bear O.

Sac State 28-37 Montana St.The Bobcats' vastly superior kicking game makes the difference.

Which is in sharp contrast to the Hornets' Jason Diniz, possibly the worst placekicker in the BSC right now.

Northern Colorado @ Montana
The Griz will be too much for the bears, UM by 21. Need to do some soul searching this week and better play hard, no excuses.

Sacramento State @ Montana State
As much as I'd like to pick Sac St, I just don't know which team of theirs will show up. If it's the one that beat us this week, they could win. Mt. St. by 7

Portland State @ Idaho State
PSU will win this by about 14. ISU just isn't as good as they had hoped they would be this year. They have shown some signs of improvment but not many and not enough for me to pick them over PSU.

Weber State @ Eastern Washington
Weber is just playing better football than Eastern right now. I will take Weber by 10 in this one.

I was 2-2 last week, missed posting for week one and now 9-3 for the year I beleive.

I'm going with the home teams this week.

And UNC should forfeit the rest of the season to save on medical costs and travel.

UNC @ UM even um will be able to score on UNC
SAC @ MSU close tough game but homefield, the MSU DL and Cunningham give us the edge
PSU @ ISU still not buying into Kramers hype
WSU @ EWU I am hoping for EWU to pull through but think thier OL is too beat up and WSU will run all over them.
