Former TXST coach & UNI player - Fred Bleil - passes

Post by CatMom »

Sad to report that former Texas State defensive coordinator Fred Bleil has passed away.

Coach Bleil was hired by former head coach Brad Wright to serve as the defensive coordinator for Texas State from 2008-2010. Bleil remained a fixture last spring around Dennis Franchione and the staff.

Before his position at Texas State, Bleil was on staff at North Texas, San Diego State, New Mexico and Utah State.

Bleil played football at Northern Iowa in 1967 and went on to earn his degree at Westmar College in 1971. He added a master's degree to his resume in 1972 from Eastern New Mexico.

Fred Bleil 1949 - 2011.

Was he any relation to former UOP offensive coordinator Bill Bleil?

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
