No isht! I blame Richmond for all of this...Clearly the city, university and all involved, have character issues :D

FWIW, those "in the know" on the 'zone are saying it's second hand smoke...

I immediately remembered why I don't frequent the 'zone.
Uh, McVeryl, the one poster who said he heard it was 2nd hand and gave that credence was jmuskinsfan, who posts on here.

Nope, I responded to jmuskinsfan fan over on the zone with this:

"I'm gonna call BS on whoever told you that.

"......The dangers of secondhand cigarette smoke are well known, but can passively inhaling other drugs such as marijuana or heroin yield a positive result on a drug test?

Probably not, doctors told ABC NEWS.com.

"It's a long shot," said Dr. Daniel Lieberman, a psychiatrist and drug-testing expert at George Washington University Hospital.

"It is hard to imagine what his motivation for getting this test would have been in the first place, but it is unlikely that simply being in close proximity would have yielded a positive result," he said.

In the U.S., the standard for a positive test result is 2,000 nanograms of the drug per milliliter. "A person would need to sit in a cloud of smoke so dense their eyes would sting before they tested positive," he said.

Previously, the standard was 300 nanograms per milliliter, but the test would sometimes yield false positives if the subject had recently eaten poppy seeds. Yes, the myth was true.

"The cutoff had to be changed because of false positives resulting from poppy seeds," said Laura Shelton, executive director of the Drug and Alcohol Testing Industry Association. "The number of poppy seed bagels you'd have to eat to get a positive result now is astonishing."........."

I guess that's true. I didn't remember who it was.

My apologies to anyone on the 'zone who I may have...forget it, most still jump off the bridge pretty quick over there. I will have to say that I've been over there more this year than the past three years combined and it's not as bad as it used to be...

JmuSkinsfan did post this: "....from what I've heard it was an internal test. MM randomely tests a handful of players during the season ... first offense = warning, 2nd positive = 5 game suspension."

If that is true, then kudos for Mickey (or the JMU AD Bourne if it is a JMU wide policy for varsity athletes).

I will have to say that this has completely changed my tailgating menu. In honor of the recent news, we will have bags upon bags of Doritos, Lays (ruffled and regular), and Cheetos. I'll also have various boxes of Twinkies, Ho-Hos and Moon Pies.

My only question on that is...is it just a handful of players for the season, or a handful of players each week during the season? The latter is great, the former is not too impressive to me.

Anyone else find it odd that this comes out less than 24 hours after beating the Tribe? Makes you wonder when MM knew they tested positive & he played them anyway... Jim Tressel of the FCS?

Lots of testing is done immediately after a game/race/competition, etc., not before.

Now, if they had this a week ago and sat on it, then yeah...

It's hard to tell...

Here's the Drug Screening and Education Policy that lays out the testing protocol.

http://www.jmusports.com/pdf8/782206.pd ... M_ID=14400" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't think this resulted from a test given Saturday night based on the protocol, but it's possible that the results weren't out.

Also, based on the policy, if they knew and didn't suspend him prior to W&M, to me it would be on the whole athletic department and not just MM.

Let's just wait to see how the CAA standing shake out. I don't want to vacate the JMU win just yet, particularly if W&M and the Hens are tied after game 11!

I hope we're not tied with W&M because I don't think they're a playoff team, which would mean we wouldn't be either. The Tribe can only afford one more loss & then they're out after that.

I don't know that the win would be vacated because JMU failed to follow its own internal procedures...I think a few positions should be vacated if that's the case... (unless you were being facetious, in which case, ignore the above, except for vacating positions)

I just find it odd that they'd get the results of a test on a Sunday. Who works on a Sunday? Just smells wrong.

Details, schmetails. As long as JMU can get hurt in this I'm cool with it.

Is that a urine joke? :D

Labs work all the time. Part of effective testing is getting the freshest sample possible. As I re-read the procedures, it's possible that a test was taken Sat. night after the game, couriered to a lab (chances are they use one of these large lab companies that specialize in this stuff who probably have a lab in Richmond) who performed the test and notified of the results.

Don't know if that's what happened, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

In today's world of red tape, I can't see getting test results back in less than 24 hours, especially with those hours being on a Sunday morning & afternoon.

There are questions that need to be asked & answered, I'd love to be listening to what MM has to say today.

Okay, bashers of JMUSkinsfan ... I was just repeating what I had heard. Thorpe is devastated ... if he were smoking on the reg. and really thought he could dodge this, than he's an idiot ... but he already failed once in his first few years so he had to know it was coming at some point ... and I'm told he made a point to quit ... which is why he's so upset ... he claims he had genuinely stopped and was astounded and, again, devastated that he failed.

Also, I know for a fact that the test results returned last night and as soon as they did ... the news broke. They weren't holding out ... and the absolute worst time for it to break is the Monday after a big win on the road heading into homecoming weekend against a top ranked conference foe.

I don't know how in-depth testing for pot is, but I know when I give blood, they prick my finger, run it through the machine and can tell a lot in about a minute. I can't imagine it takes a long time, at least to get a preliminary result on something like that.

But I agree, we still need answers to those questions. I'm guessing Barber will be asking that stuff today.

I saw Barber's tweet that MM said he got word for the 1st time on Sunday, glad the question was asked.

How is the other guy Williams? Is that a big loss for the Dukes?

JMU coach Mickey Matthews says the first he heard about Justin Thorpe's situation was Sunday. He has not addressed the team yet.

And I think (hope) that MM is smart enough to know that if he lied about it, it's pretty easy to uncover it based on the documentation that's generated by the process. A FOIA request would at least end up producing some redacted documents with dates on them.

Williams isn't a huge loss. Vidal Nelson, Pat Williams and Stephon Robertson are our starting LBs. I haven't even kept track of how much C. Williams plays.

EDIT - Just looked. He has three tackles and only played in two games this year.

Chase Williams and Jamie Veney are our backups. Actually ... in evidence of how stacked our LBs are ... Veney and Williams both started two years ago ... and are now back-ups to Williams, Robertson and Nelson. Veney will replace Williams. Part of the reason for that is a change of schemes. JMU has run a 4-2-5 defense for as long as I can remember ... and just this year switched to the 4-3 ... in the old system 2 of those safeties were essentially 3rd and 4th LBs ... So our defense basically had 4 LBs just under different names. Vidal Nelson and Pat Williams played safety ... but are now at LB. I believe the starters 2 years ago were WS Nelson, SS Pat Williams, LB Veney and Chase Williams. Now they all play LB, in addition to Stephon Robertson (So) and Vidal Nelson (Sr)
