With Pitt and Syracuse gone, Rutgers is the only short trip remaining for UConn in the big east, and with talk around what ends up being left of Big East and Big 12 merging, geographically it makes total sense to go to the ACC if invited, the Big East would make no sense geographically now.clenz wrote:peatonrobb Patrick Eaton-Robb

President Susan Herbst tells me #UConn has not ruled out staying in the Big East. Says geography will be a major part of her decision.
Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State to the Pac-12?

For football, yes. For all other sports, Big East would still be local.

yes, but Football by far has the highest travel expenses... gotta imagine the football geography will play biggest role.dbackjon wrote:UNHWildCats wrote: With Pitt and Syracuse gone, Rutgers is the only short trip remaining for UConn in the big east, and with talk around what ends up being left of Big East and Big 12 merging, geographically it makes total sense to go to the ACC if invited, the Big East would make no sense geographically now.

Yes and no - Football - 4 or 5 away games a year ( and a couple will be local regardless) vs all other sports combined

Re: Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State to the Pac-1
If UConn and Rutgers leave, I think if the Big 12 could retain KSU and Missouri somehow and merge with the Big East they could still be a viable football conference with TCU, USF, Cincinnati, and West Virginia. I heard on the radio this morning that basically if the Big East folds, Notre Dame would probably be more likely to join the Big 10 but otherwise there's little to no shot of them going to any conference.

Re: Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State to the Pac-1

Here is how that might work for this new Pac-16:
Eastern Division
Plains “Pod”
Texas
Texas Tech
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Desert/Mountain “Pod”
Utah
Colorado
Arizona
Arizona State
Western Division
California “Pod”
USC
UCLA
Stanford
Cal
Northwest “Pod”
Washington
Washington State
Oregon
Oregon State
The above two divisions, at least in football, would operate with the schools in the 4 “Pods” playing the other 3 schools in their “Pod” and then playing 2 Schools from the other “Pod” in their division with the remaining 4 conference games coming against schools from the other division assuming 9 Pac-16 conference games per year.
Here is how that might work for say Oklahoma playing 9 Pac-16 conference games:
Oklahoma would play the 3 other schools in its’ Plains “Pod”
Texas
Texas Tech
Oklahoma State
Oklahoma would play 2 other schools from the Desert/Mountain “Pod”
Colorado
Arizona
(and then Arizona State and Utah the next year)
Oklahoma would play 4 conference games against teams in the other Western Division
USC
Stanford
Oregon
Washington State
Add in 3 non-conference games and there is Oklahoma’s 12 game schedule.
Each team in the Pac-16 would play:
9 Pac-16 Conference Games each year
5 Divisional Conference Games with 3 “Pod” schools being played each year and 2 games against the other 4 teams in their division
4 Cross-Divisional Conference Games each year

So where the hell are we today?
PAC-12 says no to further expansion (nobody wants to put up with Texas's shit).
SEC says no to Missou
Big 12 absorbing the Big East refugees?
aTm still going to get screwed over by the Big 12 members?
Will the Big 12 survive?
Will BYU join the Big 12?
Anything else?

maybe Texas should just go independant since it seems like no conference whats to deal with them....they got the longhorn network so its not like they can't afford it.

SEC hasnt said no to Missouri, just denying a offer was made which makes sense... they may just want to keep it quiet to see what happens with the Big 12 instead of causing more legal issues like with Texas A&M/Baylor.HI54UNI wrote:So where the hell are we today?

Also, the Big 12/Big East meger is assuming Oklahoma/State, Texas/Tech all leave the Big 12.

The thing that I don't understand is that while the SEC has denied that they have offered Mizzou an invite then why is ESPN saying Mizzou has agreed to move to the SEC....

Either ESPN and others are wrong and no invite was made. or The SEC did invite Missouri but they dont want to confirm it yet due to potential legal actions by Baylor or others.
ESPN or any other media outlet are obviously not require to not report a story just because a conference wants it hush hush.
