Big South Power Rankings and Week 3 Discussion

1. Liberty - Not completely dominant against RMU, but dominant enough to hold onto the top spot.
2. Coastal - By virtue of SBU not quite performing as well against Buffalo as they did against UTEP
3. SBU - See above.
4. Presby - Beat a good DII team that they historically struggle with.
5. VMI - Hung in there with William and Mary in the second half
6. G-W - Looked hopeless against Ohio
7. CSU - At least they scored.

Playoff outlooks

CSU, VMI, G-W have buried their chances
Presby isn't eligible.
SBU can only lose one more game if they want to get 7 DI wins for an at-large.
CCU still able to get to 8 wins if they don't get the auto bid.
Liberty needs a couple wins the next two weeks to get a solid chance. Hopefully we get the auto-bid, tho.

Not to start a fight here, but every GW fan that was at the GWU-Ohio game last night did not believe that we were hopeless. Ohio scored 24 points in the 2nd quarter. With less 5 mins left to play in the half, the score was 10-0 and GW's D had given Ohio everything they could stand. A couple of passes/catches that went awry and Ohio got two quick TDs to go ahead.

The Runnin' Bulldogs regrouped at halftime and only allowed 2 FGs in the second half against a very good MAC team that whipped New Mexico St. last week [who beat Minnesota at home last night]. It appears that our O is still learning our new offensive scheme and the playbook has not yet been completely opened up. We have two or three very solid runners and we are looking for another WR to really step up and take some pressure off of Trey Perry. But, I just want to assure all Big South fans that the situation at GWU is hardly hopeless.

We get to take our show to Wake Forest next week and I want everyone to know that these boys will come to play. Since we haven't even teed up against a Big South team yet, it is much too early to opine that our playoff chances are over.

Fair enough, ElCid83. Since none of us watched the game we have to depend on box scores.

I have to admit I was surprised to see the Seawolves lay such an egg at Buffalo. Frankly I expected that to be a good matchup and not a complete blowout.

Otherwise I would suggest that Lefty has a good feel for where things stand after two weeks. We'll know more about Liberty & Stony Brook after this week while everybody outside of Chuck South cashes checks (How did they not find a guarantee game somewhere?).

Yeah, I went by boxscore and final score, didn't get to watch. I just know I am not impressed by the MAC, and Ohio is a team I remember more for having trouble with VMI a couple years ago.

It's tough to judge on these games, anyways... but when Rivals starts the recap with "Ohio's defense allowed only 105 total yards and forced three turnovers, dominating Gardner-Webb 30-3 on Saturday night. Gardner-Webb struggled to get anything going offensively, as Channing Browning only managed 12 total yards passing and threw three interceptions in the second quarter."

Well, I'm sure you can see why I'm not impressed.

CSU, VMI, G-W have buried their chances

At this point, you cannot say that CSU, VMI, or GW have "buried" their chances. Last time I checked, this conference has an automatic bid. That means that ANY team that wins the conference championship will go to the playoffs. In that case, the schedule does not matter, any wins or losses outside of the conference DO NOT matter. Now, in your bias, I'm sure you would say that none of the three teams likely have a chance at winning the conference championship. However, I would say that just because LU is a dominant force in the conference does not mean that the championship is just going to be handed to you. It won't be handed to LU, CCU, or SBU for that matter.

Now about Charleston Southern...

Our first two games are behind us. We have collected some needed paychecks, we have been toughened, our young student athletes have gotten some much needed experience at the highest level (FBS and #5 in the nation), and we have improved. Hopefully, we are healthy.

No game on our schedule the rest of the season will be as tough as the past two. No team on our schedule has talent that matches Central Florida or Florida State. Every game left on our schedule is winnable. We will approach it one game at a time.

So, this week at Jacksonville...

I believe we get a better idea and a more accurate gauge of what this Charleston Southern football team and season will be. I expect a good performance. We leave a three-game stretch in Florida 1-2.

The word I've been hearing on the boards is that James Madison is having a supposedly down year. If that's the case, how is it that they're going to beat Liberty, which looks to do some damage this year?

Sadly, the Flames should have beaten the Dukes the past two years only to sputter. I understand the national sentiment, but disagree on the outcome this Saturday. We'll get the JMU monkey off our backs once again which would have big impact on in-state recruiting.

This looks like a rough week for the league with Stony Brook the only other school I see taking care of business unless CSU somehow can crawl out of their fetal position of the past two weeks. Even against a non-scholarship program, I wouldn't consider that a certainty.

The only thing I disagree with you on Lefty is VMI. You have them at #5. Granted they looked decent against W&M, but it was still a lopsided loss. But look at their loss against Delaware State. A Delaware State team who needed 22 points in the 4th quarter to beat D2 Shaw by 4.

StonyBrrok did more than shoot themselves in the foot tonight. I counted 6- 15 yard penalities add in afew more and 158 yards in total penalities. Cant do that against anyone and expect to win. Brown just outplayed us . Final Brown 21 SBU 20. The Bears look good.
