The goofers struggled today but somehow pulled out their first win. Two things I learned after watching the game were:
1. QB Gray is fast. Set their school record for rushing yards by a QB today.
2. Their secondary is very suspect. Dysert threw all over the goofers. If it weren't for an int when they were driving or the blocked punt, Miami would've won this one.

Team Speed: Check, Gophers are fast. Shortell is a good mobile QB, the kind NDSU has had trouble with.

I like the BISON. This game will answer a lot of questions. The Gophers need it to save face.

I dont think its going to get out of hand in favor of ether team. If it does it will be all Minnesota. If it stays close and The BISON stay within striking distance the chances go to NDSU.

I think its going to be a bang up football game, staying close and playing hard all the day the victory will go to the BISON in the end!

Im going to take a look at different phases of the game:

RUSHING GAME:

Why is this game interesting? These two teams are equally matched. Not in things like roster size, scholarships, money spent or facilities. These teams are equally matched in desire to win what is by all definitions a classic match-up between two regional teams of wide-spread fame coming together in the classic David/Goliath contest.

The BISON are the underdogs. Its things like the Gophers having 18 Offensive Lineman on the roster, all well over 6 foot and hovering around that 300 mark. There isnt much leadership on that line though. They are mostly sophs and fresh with 1 Sr and 1 Jr that I saw.

Because these BCS/FBS clubs like to load up the O line NDSU carries 17 D lineman and a couple NGs. They run a little lighter than the Gophers O LIne but there is a better mixture of experience and youth.

That Gopher offensive line is good enough to give them 200 yds and 1 rushing TD against New Mexico.

On the other side of the ball they carry 16 on the defensive line. On paper they look just like the O line but a better mix of upper classmen.

The NDSU Offensive line matches up well with the Gophers and have been able to provide over 200 yds/game to the running backs this season.

The BISON are superior statistically in rushing defense but the level of competition lowers the quality of that stat and the teams appear to be equal. Game will go to the better backs. I like NDSU.

The Gophers have been playing teams that would be good ooponents for the BISON. Certainly the BISON would be underdogs against any of them but they are the kinds of games a good FCS team can win. So is the Gopher game.
