I was thinking about this recently so I emailed the University of Northern Iowa and asked if anyone there could put me in touch with one of Warner's former teammates.
Yesterday, Matt Harken called.
Harken was a tight end at Northern Iowa, a popular target during Warner's senior season. I asked if he thought Warner had changed much over the years. Harken didn't hesitate. Absolutely not, he said.
"You see the same fiery competitiveness," Harken said. "The same accuracy throwing the football."
Warner's collegiate career mirrored his professional career. He had to wait for an opportunity.
"He didn't start until his senior season," said Harken, who today works as Northern Iowa's director of football operations. "There was already a guy in front of him. He was a three-year starter, and we were winning a ton of games, so it's hard to bench that guy. Even though Kurt had a great arm, you can't bench a winner. Kurt had to wait his turn."
Warner was the Gateway Conference Offensive Player of the Year as a senior. He led the conference in total offense and passing efficiency, passing for more than 300 yards four times.

I was at UNI during Kurt Warner's time there. I remember when he was a Junior the 3 year starter (Jay Johnson) was hurt in a game and Warner got to play and he lit it up. The next weekend when Johnson was playing like shit the crowd started chanting for Warner, not that it did any good. He was a fun quarterback to watch because he had some good receivers and the combination would be some big, long plays.

Cap'n Cat was a GA at UNI when Warner was there. He was very quiet and polite. Nice guy.
Agree with Matt Harken - Jay Johnson was already an awesome QB and ran the show well. Warner just had to wait.

There are some that don't/didn't like him in college. I think they are mostly those that didn't like his demeanor/attitude/outlook at the time....that or they were/are jealous of him for his success at this point

Am I the only one to notice the UNI Dome is the identical facility as the NAU Walkup Skydome?

Was there ever a time when he did not think his poop doesn't stink?
