Obama speech tonight

Post by BDKJMU »

1st of all, the dumba** calls for a joint session of Congress on NFL opening night  :ohno: :ohno:

2nd of all, POTUSes generally don't call for joint sessions of congress unless its a SOTU, for a very important visiting head of state, or in time of war. Obama is calling for a joint session of Congress to give a campaign speech. :ohno:

Obama is reportedly going to call for 400 billion in increased deficit spending on the same day the the Super Committee has to have their 1st meeting about cutting 1.2 trillion. :? We've already had a 862 billion failed stimulus. Now BHO wants to have another 400 billion in "stimulus" :ohno:

I'm glad a lot of Republicans have said they don't plan on attending what is going to amount to no more than a campaign speech. The time for speeches is over. Speeches don't do jack squat to fix a problem.

The good news is that it will over before the opening kickoff.

His last SOTU was a campaign speech, so this is no surprise.

It's gonna compete with college football previews on ESPN - no thanks. They've already put out what he's going to say, a repeat of the stimulus program that failed, so why should I bother....

You really hope he doesn't come out and say some of the stuff that is apparently leaking into the stories leading up to this speech, i.e. another 12 month payroll tax holiday, extending unemployment past the current 99 weeks, etc. That's just more spending on real short term gains that won't have any lasting effect and worse, everyone knows they won't have a lasting effect so no longterm plans will be changed. They're almost the equivalent of Bush's $500 check to everyone stimulus - that didn't do anything and this stuff won't either. You end up spending money and all you've done is spin your wheels. I have no problem with an infrastructure bank, per se, but that's not going to do anything for a few years. As much as I hate to say it, especially having voted for the guy, he's pretty much doing his best effort to look Carter-esque. I kinda wished Hillary hadn't had Bill still hanging around because without him she might have still pulled out the '08 nomination and therefore the election. Tonight just seems like another low point for Obama's and he's had too many of those.

I found it interesting that it's being reported that the $300-400B will paid for in spending cuts elsewhere.

So let me get this straight - we went through several months of gridlock over the debt ceiling, set up a supercommitee to address the deficit/debt, and we had $300B just laying around in plain sight to fund a stimulus/job package?

They decided to delay construction of the suspension bridge to the moon in 2135 AD. That will save them more than enough to spend a few hundred billion now.

Here's a sneak peek at the speech.

POTUS: "We have extrordianry problems. I have a plan that the majority won't like. It failed before. But hey, Abe Lincoln failed many times until he succeded. So, this could work. Right? "

Take a look at the CBO report on the effectivness of the stimulus program (i.e., where we would be economically if it hadn't been implemented). As bad as things are, they could be a lot worse.

THE CBO report was basicaly bs. Not their fault they did what they were requred to do which is model the bill before it passes based on models that are far from proven and then use the exact same models to show the impact of the bill. In otherwords, the result had to give the same answer as the projection because they used exactly the same assumptions. X amount of spending creates x number of jobs

You could be right but that is mere speculation. The truth is that things have gotten worse under his watch and it seems like he is powerless (due to his ideology) to stop it.

From a pure political standpoint after the way he, Princess Pelousy, and Dingy Harry shat all over the GOP from 1/2009-1/2011 he shouldn't count on any cooperation from the GOP in support of his spending policies at all. He made his bed, now he's got to lie in it.

Yeah, the CBO is dead nuts on with their estimates.....
In the same report, the CBO estimated that in the fourth quarter of 2010 there were somewhere between 1.3 million and 3.5 million people who were then employed who would not have been had the stimulus not been enacted. “CBO estimates,” says the report, “that ARRA’s policies had the following effects in the fourth quarter of calendar year 2010: … Increased the number of people employed by between 1.3 million and 3.5 million.”

It doesn't take much to have more credibility than Congress.
