Week 2: Missouri Valley Conference Power Rankings

Post by guinzone »

I will try to do something along these lines every week if I find 15 minutes out of the day.

1. North Dakota State: Defeated Lafayette 42-6. Bison look good in win #1.
2. Northern Iowa: Lost a heartbreaker at Iowa State 20-19. ISU scored the go-ahead touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the game. Now you know how YSU felt last year ;) .
3. Southern Illinois: Defeated Southeastern Central Northwestern Missouri State 34-10. Nice first win for the Saluki's.
4. South Dakota State: Defeated Southern Utah 29-28. Nearly blew a big lead to SUU, but they held on. Nice first win in the Post-Minnett era up at SDSU.
5. Youngstown State: Lost to #16 Michigan State 28-6. As Dantonio said on the post-game show, the game was still in doubt at 21-6 midway thru the 4th quarter until a Hess INT gave MSU the ball inside the redzone. YSU's defense looked vastly improved.
6. Illinois State: Lost at Eastern Illinois 33-26. Not a good loss for ILSU. Back and forth game in which the ILSU defense struggled mightily at times.
7. Indiana State: Lost 41-7 at Penn State. The Sycamores were never in this one.
8. Western Illinois: Lost 20-6 at Sam Houston State. Their offense looked awful. For a league that was all about offense last year, it may be a very long year for WIU.
9. Missouri State: Got crushed by #7 Arkansas 51-7. Not a surprising result by any stretch of the imagination. However the Terry Allen Final Countdown is on in Springfield.

Now post yours!

Pretty good GZ.

I would probably switch SIU and NDSU, as IMO, SIU had a stronger opponent. UNI looked good and almost beat Iowa St. SDSU had a good win,and YSU played tough.

Disagree with:

Would re do it as
7. Missouri State- 51-7 is ugly, but they only gave up 102 rushing yards against the #13 team in THE country, forced 3 fumbles, 14 of those points were by the SEC return man of the year off freak punt returns, and even Mr. Hotseat Terry Allen admitted they held the offense back.
8. 6. Indiana State-Better than their score suggests, holding judgement until they play an FCS
9. WIU- No excuse to only score 6 on a felow FCS team

I would switch the top two around. Other than that I agree with GZ.
For the strength of the Herd is the Bison and the strength of the Bison is the HERD

You and Eye should get the benefit of the doubt. ONE POINT from knocking off perennial f'BSer Cyclone State. NDSU is #2 despite a very impressive win over the Patriot's worst team.

I would swtich UNI and NDSU, a one point loss to a FBS in the last seconds is more impressive than demolishing a poor FCS team. Not that NDSU played poorly, but just more respect for going into a FBS and being so close to a win.
Would also flip the two ISU's. Ill. St. looked terrible and lost to an OVC team, while Ind. St. played Penn St. and got schellacked, which should be expected. Also would flip MSU and WIU, MSU looked bad but WIU looked like they wanted to be last in conference. Pretty darn good rankings though GZ!
