Why is the URI-Syracuse game listed in the Week #1 list? Shouldn't Sept. 10 games be listed in Week #2?

Think they were all smoking the same thing. Random week 2 game thrown in with the week one games. Strange.

Dear ACC coaches,

It’s a big week for you. Huge.

Appalachian State, James Madison, William & Mary and Richmond are all on the schedule -- all FCS programs that have humbled the big boys of the BCS in recent years. App State beat Michigan in a monumental upset in 2007. JMU stunned the Hokies last year. The Tribe beat Virginia in 2009 -- the same year Richmond beat Duke.

Not this year.

It’s time you took a stand.

There are six FCS programs on the Week 1 schedule, including NC State’s opener against Liberty and Georgia Tech’s game against Western Carolina. App State won 10 games last year. Liberty and William & Mary each won eight. With the exception of a 2-9 Western Carolina team last year, these guys are good.

It’s time to make a statement.

It seems like every year in recent years, the ACC has suffered an embarrassing loss. I’m tired of writing it. ACC fans are tired of reading it. You’re better than that. There are no Alabamas or Boise States on the schedule this week, no Chick-fil-A Kickoff to steal the spotlight. Instead, there is a drama-filled conference game in College Park, two tough games against respectable opponents in Syracuse and Northwestern, and what should amount to a bunch of W's.

This week should be a breeze, a tune-up, a chance for Clemson to work the kinks out in its new offense, and an opportunity for first-year starting quarterbacks to get the jitters out.

This weekend should be about winning.

I know, I know … there is more parity in college football than ever before. The 85-scholarship limit has helped even the playing field. Anybody can beat anybody on any given Saturday. That’s why you play the game. (Did I miss any?)

But you are the ACC.

You are one of the Big Six, a BCS conference with an automatic bid to a BCS bowl, one of the big boys.

So please, in Week 1, play like it.

BDJMU, I seriously think the MAC has a better chance of going undefeated against the CAA. The ACC could be the so called "laughing stock" of FBS come Sunday.

Well, so far for Thur we have:

Toledo 58, UNH 22. Ouch. As far which CAA would win their I-A game, UNH got more votes on here than anyone, about 1/2 doz people on here. Don't think that too many of them paid attention to the only 10 starters back for UNH and Toledo being picked to win the MAC west.

Temple 42, Nova 7. Thats only mildly surprising to me. They lost Norman White, their 2010 1st team All CAA & pre season AA WR earlier this week for the season due to an injury. They'd already lost their returning starting OT for the year due to an injury in the Spring. Glad I decided not to go to this game. Gonna be a long season for Nova.

Umass 24, HC 16. Watched on TV. UMass didn't look that good against a physically inferior team. Not surprising to see Hernandez rush for 29 carries, 151- he is a really good back. The 2nd UMass QB who came in looked better than the 1st, but he wasn't a world beater. They also struggled a little against the pass.

Umass HC is a big rivalry game. Plus, this was a big deal to the Crusaders since it was at the first night game at Fitton, they drew 16k. Outside of last year these games are almost always close.

HC was picked 3rd in the PL so they figure to be pretty good again this year.

true, they kept repeating that during the broadcast. They were rated higher than ODU and I like to believe ODU was pretty good last year...

Also BDK, obviously you are right about the ratings meaning nothing at this point...was just kind of using that as a measuring stick for both teams.

Difference between dreaming and being completely delusional. Every single one of those I-A is favored, several of them heavily favored.

Congrats though on being the only one on the Week 1 CAA Prediction Thread to pick UR over Duke. But that doesn't make up for your delusionalness of picking UNH, Nova, Navy, JMU, W&M, all of whom got worked over. Even a blind squirrel gets a nut every now and then.

Toledo 21 UNH 30: I really like Decker as a QB so I don't think UNH will miss much of a beat success-wise. They won't have the defense they had last year but McConnell has consistently found ways to win with changing parts. Besides, UNH does well against FBS teams.

UVA 31 W&M 35: W&M is always very competitive in its FBS games, even though they rarely win them. Last time they won an FBS game, though, was in Charlottesville. I think they pull this one out again against a blah UVA team.

It's TEMPLE, for God's sake. Nova is in for a long year if THAT'S all they bring to the table. Apparently the post-Ceasar hangover is just too great.

But like I said, I guess you weren't paying attention to what either team had coming back (thats why no one else picked Nova):
-Yeah, Temple has their new HC Steve Addazio, but he was OC at Florida. Temple had a majority of their starter back from last yr's 8-4 team that beat Nova, and are predicted (by some) to win the MAC East.
Again Nova lost:
-12 of 22 starters to graduation, the majority of them All CAA, several AAs (inlcuding 2nd rd pick Ijalana).
-a returning starting OT to injury for the season last Spring.
-their returning All CAA & pre season AA WR out for the season a few days before the Temple game.
-were playing NUMEROUS redshirt and true freshmen, including at QB.

I live less than 20 miles from both schools. I see Temple at 9-3/8-4, with 7-1/6-2 in the MAC. I said last month on here I didn't see Nova better than 5-6/3-5, and now it looks like they could be worse than that. Anyone who had been following both teams this off season would have been nuts to pick Nova.

Different picks on GoHens - the official picks if you will. About 90 people picking over there (half UD fans, half others), so pretty good spread. I suck on the picks versus the spread though, hence why I don't tend to gamble. Rocking on the straight up picks though!
