So....you really, in your heart of hearts, don't see Montana State as one of the best 25 teams in the FCS?

No. They have a history of doing something good then p!$$ing it down their leg later. I've never seen UNI do that....

You're a maroon if you think UNI has never pissed anything down their leg after doing something good.

2011: (WE ARE ONLY ONE GAME IN AND IT HAS HAPPENED ALREADY) Dominated the Iowa State game, lost on a last minute TD

2010: Outgained Iowa State and lost, physically domintated SFA and lost, won the conference title and lost in the opening round of the playoffs to a non-scholly team (albeit a good one)

2009: lost by 1 (due to two blocked FG's in the last 10 seconds) to eventual Orange Bowl champs Iowa.....missed the playoffs after starting the season in the top 10, and being ranked in the top 10-15 all year. Cost ourselves the playoffs by losing at Illinois State the last week of the season after scoring to go ahead with one minute left we let Illinois State go the length of the field in 50 seconds to score a touchdown and win...

2008: #3 seed in the playoffs, lost on a last minute TD to Richmond in the semi-finals AT THE UNIDOME

2007 - Undefeted in the regular season, including a BCS win, lost in the Quarters AT HOME as #1 seed

2006: lost at Iowa State due to a last second missed Field Goal

2005: Gave Appy State the national title after having the lead

Please don't make me go back any further. There is a reason UNI stops getting votes of confidence come the quarters of the playoffs....because we always fuck it up.

I meant that I've never seen UNI follow a FBS win with a D-II loss....

Already running....preaseason poll was out. Voting for week one endss tonight I believe.
But what happened to waiting till after week 4 like last yr? Right now all you have to base a poll off of is one game.
JMU Football:
4 Years FBS: 40-11 (.784). Highest winning percentage & least losses of all of G5 2022-2025.
Sun Belt East Champions: 2022, 2023, 2025
Sun Belt Champions: 2025
Top 25 ranked: 2022, 2023, 2025

Right...just like every other poll. :coffee:

The poll will finish very very very very similar if it is started after week 1 or if it started after week 4.

I gave AppSt a punishment for losing.. they were a top 5 FCS team and got totally blown out of this game. Couldn't let that slide. MSU not in the top 25 is just about the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Ever.

For the preseason poll, a lot weighs on the lingering affects of last year. The adjustments from the first week MUST be based on that poll, as worthless as it tends to be. It works out later (sort of).

UNI will be in the hunt, I'm sure. MSU? That remains to be seen.

So the reason is because of a loss in 2006, seriously? a previous coaching staff, and ZERO players that are connected, so what about the lingering effects of last year? beat EWU 30-7, Conf Co-Champs, Offensive Co-MVP (returning this year) returning a majority of that offense which was a top ranked offense in many categories

So I am wondering what is the statute of limitations on this, its obviously over 5 years, is it 10 years? 15? maybe 20?

Of course you are aware that that DII team that beat MSU went far in the DII playoffs and had a player that happens to hold the NCAA multipurpose yardage record for all divisions and is currently the starting running back for the New England Patriots (They are an NFL team)

You are plumb Nucking Futs, even griz fans see reality better than that.

Its lack of objectivity and logical thinking that make these polls a joke, I don't vote anymore because I don't feel I have the time to follow some of the east coast teams and make a fully informed poll. Yet you go ahead and make a mockery of it.

Well I click on the CS Poll thread and it says I don't have permission. (I've got the confirmation email saying I was included.) Others have said they voted so I think something is going on with the access.

Bammer will kick GSU's ass and I imagine that you'll see a lot of subs playing for both teams as both will have bigger fish to fry in the following weeks. I'd also be shocked and pissed off if GSU loses by over 50 though.

As a fan and booster of a conference rival I have been watching App (with equal parts disdain and respect) for a long time and I saw something Saturday that I had only seen out of a Jerry Moore team once before- the first time on a beautiful October day in 2004 in Statesboro- which was an App State team that didn't compete and rolled over.

App is playing about .500 ball over their last six games going back to last year and they didn't compete Saturday. If I was an App fan/booster I would be very concerned.

Florida hammered us just as bad last year. They were up 35-0 and could have beaten us just as bad as Virginia Tech or worse... but, they called off the dogs earlier. That was a SoCon championship team that got destroyed by Florida. The difference between our level and their level is just that great. You'll find out when you play Alabama. Virginia Tech could have beaten us as bad as they wanted to, Florida could have last year, LSU could have in 2008.

The final score in all those games is simply a reflection of when the other team decides to call off the dogs.

Bama might not beat y'all by 50. But, if they want to... they can and will.

We have played more than our fair share of top FBS teams over the years. The only time we get rolled by 50+ (or for that matter 40+) is our worst teams against teams that win major bowl games.

Also, do you really think Virginia Tech is on the same level as the good SEC teams? They got stomped by Stanford in a BCS bowl and they lost to JMU last year. I honestly was half-hoping you guys would beat VT, but if you don't think you might have some problems on defense this year, you're looking at things through the black and gold glasses. :twocents:

[EDIT] By the way, Jelly, Nebraska didn't call off the dogs until about mid way through the fourth quarter. And they played a team that's better offensively. Why didn't they lose by 50+?

I don't think Tennessee called the dogs off until about 6(?) min left in the 4th. They called a time out and went for it on 4th and 1 on the 1 and didn't get in. I won't give you any excuses as to why we got beat like we did, but we sure as hell didn't roll over and they had to play hard until the end. With my travel to and from the game, I was not able to catch any of the other games to give any opinion on them though. :twocents:

Over the last 34+ minutes, Montana 16; Tennessee 14. I supposed they called the dogs off after 26 minutes.... About the only substitution Tennessee made on offense at the end was the QB. Up 42-16 with two minutes left and calling time out on a fourth and goal at the one to try get another score is not calling the dogs off. It's no wonder they couldn't make it; Tennessee never beat Montana at the line of scrimmage all night. They averaged 2.8 yards/carry on the ground.

And Tennessee isn't in the same realm as VT. Tennessee would get rolled.

Virginia Tech will be a top 5 team before the regular season is over.

The games count toward the playoffs so there should be consequenses if you lose. GSU was the highest ranking top ten team to win. They should move up to #1. The rest should move down with ASU taking a bigger hit for thier uninspired game. Maybe switch them with UNI or something?
