Environemental Rule "Job-Killer" So Obama Kills It

Post by Col Hogan »

Just hours after receiving horrible news on the jobs front Friday, the Obama Administration bowed to pressure from local leaders, industry, and the Republicans, and killed an EPA rule on ozone that most consider a "jobs killer"...
Obama’s decision was announced shortly after disheartening employment numbers were released Friday morning. It drew harsh reaction from environmentalists and their allies — including a statement from MoveOn.org questioning why its members should work for the president’s reelection — highlighting the dangers the White House faces as it seeks middle ground among competing interests.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/ ... ml?hpid=z4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Immediate reaction from the American Lung Association was to restart a law suit suspended as the Obama Administration considered enacting the tougher standards, and a call for hearings from a Senate Democrat...
Friday’s decision “leaves me with more questions than answers,” said Sen. Thomas R. Carper (D-Del.), who chairs the Senate’s clean-air subcommittee. He said he would hold hearings with White House officials “to explain these actions and the possible ramifications.”
Friday's action really caught environmental groups by surprise...
National environmental groups, anticipating an administration announcement finalizing the ozone regulations, were so confident that they had drafted two media statements, both positive. Instead, advocacy groups issued series of separate rebukes Friday while business organizations lavished praise on the president.

Karen Harned, executive director of the National Federation of Independent Business’s Small Business Legal Center, wrote in an e-mail, “It’s encouraging to see the administration finally recognizes that this would have been the worst possible time to implement such a burdensome new rule.”

Your response is exactly why I'm suprised Obama made this move. This seems to be a good move, but it won't please conservatives while at the same time it will piss off his base.

I'm conservative. It pleased me.

The only people he pissed off are the fucktard, destroy-America, piss-brained, enviro-extremists.

Sounds like a good decision.

But I doubt that you will be voting for Obama no matter what he does. Meanwhile, the people he pissed off were likely voters. Credit where it's due, he made the right call at a potential risk to himself.

But the people he pissed off are the uber-extreme left, who will still vote for him. Moderate Americans understand this enviro-extremism is destroying our country.

Over spending is destroying our country. Politicians who begin their re-election campaigns the day they take office are destroying our country.

Enviro-extremism is a fringe problem at most.

Not true. Now, ONE CORRECT DECISION isn't going to make me vote for him, but if this becomes a pattern, then we shall see. :coffee: :coffee:

BS, and you know it. If they were a fringe problem, Obama would have never made this decision. This rule was killing any chance of job creation, so ke killed it....in the face of enviro-extremists who were championing it. Now, maybe Obama is just concerned about his reelection and figures those folks will vote for him anyways and he needs to start attempting to fix the jobs situation or it won't matter, so maybe he IS running for reelection already (we all know he is), and that's part of the problem, but to dismiss the extremists as a "fringe problem" would be akin to dismissing the religious right as a "fringe problem" for the Republicans.

When it comes to listing the things that are destroying this county, enviro-extremism is not at the top of the list. I'm not saying that it isn't a problem, but uncontrolled spending is the elephant in the room.

Enviro-extremism isn't killing this country any more than gay marriage, abortion or gun control.

Gee, what a shock. You're an anti-enviro-extremist. Just as bad, only on the other side of the issue.

Bullshit. We're not talking about social issues, Jelly Hen 86.

I'll stack my business expertise up against anyone here. I've worked with more businesses around the U.S., face to face, with full access to their books, than I can count...literally.
Enviro-extremism is the #1 problem in America, and the #1 cause of our economic demise. Add to that the Orwellian bureaucratic regulations imposed on business by our government, and you've discovered the principle cause of our nation's problems over the past two decades.

BH, I don't know how I can make this more clear. America has to PRODUCE goods to survive. American businesses have become the villian of the "progressives". Businesses cannot globally compete when our government shits all over them with draconian regulations/penalties/taxes, including mind-numbing volumes of environmental restrictions.

It really is this simple.

Businesses don't sit around wringing their hands dreaming up ways to pollute....

...they wring their hands worrying about how they can comply with all the restrictions imposed, have nighmares about being obliterated by unjustifiably (absurd) fines/penalties/taxes, and still somehow globally compete and survive.

And through this all...

...they create jobs.

See if you can figure out the rest.

Chinese regulation or lack there of is the job killer for us. Along with our trade policies. Over-regulation which I'll admit exists, is down the list considerably. Besides, businesses hire based on demand.

Why do you think there is a demand for loans right now? Is it similar to 2006 when that demand was being met? :dunce:

I could really use a business loan right now. Like many small businesses we're under capitalized and our industry is over built. I could use the money for new equipment, capital improvement projects, and increased marketing to raise competitive advantages and steal market share.

If that happened, demand might increase for me. There would still be an over-supply. :coffee:

From the owner/investor perspective, capital improvements/capacity expansion is a waste of money until demand starts turning the corner. Targeting competition is a sound investment, but again, the bigger problem is resolving the issues that collapsed the market.
Businesses can exert tremendous pressure on Washington to knock off the shenanigans...but too many bizheads have invested so much of their time into trying to outsmart the pols (gaming), that they've allowed their market foundations to crumble.

Had to wince when I read Maxine Water's remarks during an interview Sunday...
“The president must be bold. I agree that he must have a jobs program, he must create jobs. I’m talking about a jobs program of a trillion dollars or more. We’ve got to put Americans to work. That’s the only way to revitalize this economy. When people work, they earn money, they spend that money, and that’s what gets the economy up and going.”
...utterly ignorant. Similar to her "nationalize oil" slip a few years back...

...rather than fixing the cause (collapsed industry/production/exports/cheap energy/natural resource management for beneficial use...i.e., "real" long-term job creation/economic recovery), she's proposing the creation of a gigantic welfare state funded by suicidal debt.

And she's one of a few hundred votes that effects the lives (survival) of several hundred million people...

...yet there's no waking up from this nightmare.
