I don't know. They have managed to build a decent academic reputation especially with the Northern Virginia students. The power that D-I athletics can provide for student recruitment is hard to overlook. They made a big deal of their start-up D-III football program some 10-15 years ago and they may be ready to take another step.danefan wrote:My brother-in-law used to be head of campus housing there (now actually is head of housing at Southern Utah). nice facilities and as you said - a ton of state support, but do you really think they'll ever move to DI? This school has come a long way in a few short years thanks to a ton of money raised by a former state legislator that is the President of the school. He has gotten a lot of aid from his "contacts". At the rate they are growing in size and reputation, it won't be long until we will have to deal with them at the D-1 level. I want to keep these f---ers DOWN.

Closest D.II school is Bowie State, which is where I played my home high school games. I might as well just go to a high school game. It would be more competitive.
If Stevenson starts up a football program, I might go see them play.

I'd go watch Dixie State games, but I dont want to travel all the way down to St. George from Ogden just to see one. However, Dixie always has my support.

Re: Cap'n Cat's Annual DII and DIII Games Plug
We've got a ton of great DII, III and NAIA action around us.
Tusculum, Carson-Newman, Emory & Henry, App. State, UVa-Wise...
I'll probably catch one of these at some point this year.

Re: Cap'n Cat's Annual DII and DIII Games Plug
Iowa has it's own D3 conference, usually has some great teams at the top but they always run into Whitewater or Union in the playoffs.
I'm going to try to get to a Wartburg game this year, as their stadium since the renovations were done is very nice.
Only 1 D2 in the state, and they are bad....I mean bad. However, their mascot is the Peacocks and all of their gear is of the "Go Cocks" variety. I won't catch a game this year more than likely.
No NAIA around Cedar Falls. The other side of Iowa has some real good NAIA schools around it. Morningside, Northwestern, Sioux Falls (who is now moving D2), and Northwest Missouri State. I'd love to catch a game at NWMOST sometime. They draw 8-10k for their games, and could probably step into the FCS and be successful.

Cry me a river. There are two schools in Baltimore that play football as far as I'm concerned, and they play each other Saturday night, of which I will be attending. Johns Hopkins and their fans can eat shit and die.Cap'n Cat wrote:andy7171 wrote:Closest D.III school to me is Hopkins. and I'll be damned if I ever willingly go see them play anything.![]()

If I want to go see D.III football, I'll go down to Catholic U. Three of my brothers-in-law played down there at my wife's alma mater. But the atmosphe down in DC's Brookland neighborhood is hardly the the ideal utopia you describe to let the kids run free.

Nearby Black Hills St. is a transitional D-II school (moving up from NAIA), which means their schedule this year is shit. Four home games and they are on the road for the entire month of October. After their homecoming game on Sept. 10th, they aren't back home until Nov. 5th. Part of their road trip takes em to North Dakota.

Will be watching Carroll College go for ring #7....yes they were the ones that have beaten Sioux Falls for the chipper. NAIA is losing some good teams who are moving to NCAA

No, nice little school up there, good field but athletic facilities are in need of money. Headed to the RMAC, there is a lot of local kids that go there.AZGrizFan wrote:Do they play indoors too?SouthDakotaGrizzly wrote:Nearby Black Hills St. is a transitional D-II school (moving up from NAIA), which means their schedule this year is shit. Re: Cap'n Cat's Annual DII and DIII Games Plug
What he said. Decent facilities, but not a helluva lot of fan support. Good crowds for Swarm Days (homecoming) and whenever they play the South Dakota School of Mines (archrival) but other games are pretty low attendance and quiet. I went to a BH game a couple of years ago the week after attending a game at Wa-Griz and it was really quite sad. BH is more of a basketball school. Both the men's and women's teams have had a lot of success recently, with the men advancing to the NAIA Final Four a couple of years ago and the women in the Elite 8 a couple of times.Wedgebuster wrote:No, nice little school up there, good field but athletic facilities are in need of money. The funny part of the RMAC move is that BH and Mines decided to move up to D-2 at the same time, but BH was given an invite to the RMAC while Mines was left out in the cold. Mines still doesn't have a conference to go to, and in the meantime their old NAIA conference (the DAC) is breaking apart after BH, Mines and Minot St. all jumped to D-2. It would be like if UM and MSU both wanted to go to the WAC (totally hypothetical here...don't need to restart THAT discussion) and UM was offered by MSU wasn't. I hope the RMAC move doesn't result in BH on UM's schedule anytime soon...

Hardly. I love me some lower level football. CUA all the way. McDanials College, formerly known as Western Maryland, is my favorite. How can you root against the Green Terrors? I went to WMC for Art Monk Football camp. They play JHU every year, and I root for them every year.Cap'n Cat wrote:

It's an odd existance. Hopkins being D.I in lax and everything else D.III. I wish death on them all!

We have tickets for The Division 2 National Champion University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs @ Saint Cloud State October 8. This is a 1 O'Clock game in one of the countries most beautiful fields on the Mississippi river by the University Drive Bridge on the Campus of Saint Cloud State University.
