with 50% of the tax base of the county in St. Paul - and with St. Paul poised to get none of the benefit - the plan is DOA in St. Paul - and any pol backing it here will be bounced from office (commissioner ortega tops the list) - plus, with all the site improvements, the state will be on the hook for an assload of infrastructure not included in the price tag.

it's not corporate Minneapolis that he's listening to - it's all of Ramsey County south of Hwy 36...
...and the people north of Hwy 36 should pay for anything in St Paul or Minneapolis without any assumed benefit. How is the baseball stadium location benefiting St Paul south of Hwy 36.

The stadium location will benefit St Paul and Minneapolis, not as much if it was in that particular downtown, but most of the best hotels are in Ramsey and Hennipen County. The best tailgating would be in a suburban location, otherwise the Vikings will move to LA, IMO. I'll change my statement to corporate Minnesota to include St Paul.
I don't disagree with you on the location vis-a-vis tailgating (which, I frankly don't give even half a shit about), or even that a suburban location would be best for the facility - though i have my doubts based on the desire to use it for final fours and other big events...

what i will say is this. the math doesn't work on the current plan. there simply isn't enough revenue being generated in this one small county to cover the costs incurred. it's a regional and state asset - it should be funded thus.

as for LA... it's still an empty threat. the Jaguars are at 65% capacity for most games - the Chargers are two hours down the road with a built-in fanbase... the league will let either of those teams move long before a team averaging 97% capacity for the last 10 years in a bad stadium.

If the Vikings don't have a good season this year, the 97% capacity will go way down, like the days prior to Randy Moss. A lot of games were TV Blackouts during the 1990's. A new stadium will pump up the crowds, just like the Twins. The location of Target field makes it as desirable of a venue for me to visit as a Timberwolevs game. The state maybe should have thought about a roof on the Twins Stadium if they were concerned about final fours.

The state won't pony up for another outdoor football stadium. Won't happen - nor should it. A stadium that draws 10-12 event days/year for $600 million is a colossal rip off. The roof - adding 150-200M to the price tag enables the facility to be used something like 100-150 days/year - and makes the project much more worthwhile. The location downtown makes more sense in this regard. (on top of which, TCAAP is polluted to shit, and the cleanup is at least $30-40 million on top of everything else)

As for Target Field - we had enough damn trouble getting the funding passed as it was - the state had a shot to pay $100 million for a roof - I'm really glad they didn't. (as it is - the design wouldn't have allowed for a roof)

I thought the Vikings stadium cost included a roof, so I have no problem with it. It would be nice to finally get the site cleaned up and put to good use. The original numbers I saw had the cleanup in the price, the biggest difference in the sides was the infrastructure improvements and the original inflated numbers presented by opponents. I would rather have an easy access stadium in the burbs for more money than another downtown venue.

As bad as the Metrodome was to watch a game, I would rather go to a Twins game in the dome vs Target Field. Easy access and the cost of a ticket was cheaper for better seats. Now if there was a train from a suburban football stadium to Target Field, I might think differently. The bus system in the Twin Cities slows traffic, when the bus workers were on strike, traffic was never so good and we didn't have to inhale the diesel fumes.
