3. Delaware -- A hot spot for FBS transfers and quasi-celebs VP Biden & Joe Flacco. A team that can typically compete for a national title.

4. Georgia Southern -- Nobody has won more national titles at the FCS level, and the Eagles still compete in the playoffs.

5. Northern Iowa -- Probably the most consistently good team in a competitive league.

YSU is top 10, but even them should not be top 5 in my eyes.

YSU carries the taint of Tressel.

I apply the lawyer's pornography test. You know it when you see it. Just kidding.

In all seriousness, I think it would tough to develop criteria for prestige. I tried to imply that with my cheerleader quip.

Obviously, we are going to value the number ofFCS championships, playoff appearances (if they participate), institution's media attention, FBS upsets, and so forth. Special significance ought to be placed upon success in those areas in the past 3-5 years, etc.. Beyond this, and doing surveys, I don't see myself being much more help in this area.
Under these criteria, SIU over the past 5 years is easily comparable to UNI.

To me, YSU is like the Notre Dame of the FCS. I wouldn't put the Irish in my top 10 either. No offense of course. :)

Given the Tressel thing and their long downturn, YSU's championships are about as relevant as Idaho State's.

As an NDSU fan I cannot say this more plainly... we are NOT a "prestigious" or "elite" FCS program. We've only been playoff eligible for 2 years for chrissakes...

We WERE a prestigious D-II program, no doubt... but around here were the new kid in town (with a bunch of mouthy fans whose team really hasn't backed up the smack)

Three years....FWIW.

Why do NDSU fans have trouble counting? No smack intended towards you TTBF though.

Heh. Has bisonville.com come after you with torches and pitchforks yet for such blasphemy?

Chance I will be in Fargo in October for an NDSU game. Haven't seen Bison football since the mid 90s. Any suggestions, TwinTownBisonFan? Send a note here on CS if so. I lived in Fargo for a bit and spent childhood summers visiting. Regardless of what my wanker relatives in Montana say, Fargo (and most of North Dakota) is a good place to live with more reasonable people than not. NDSU's collective fanbase need not be stained by a few horse's rears behind the keyboard. Follow the Twins daily on the net here. This season has been painful.

Exactly right, OL FU. Over time, Yale, Harvard, Princeton and Dartmouth all have a claim to be "top Ivy team." Penn has been very solid recently, but only Harvard has won at least 7 games every year since 2001.

In my interactions with SU fans about 90% are great. However, that other 10% are past help and ruin the other 90.

that is my experience with all schools. Fortunately at our get togethers we never have a school that has more than 10 fans show up. :D
