Big SOuth OL 2011

Post by bjtheflamesfan »

Well we are in the second day of summer and creeping ever closer to the start of training camp, and now its time for probably one of my favorite parts of doing these threads last year, and that is the discussions of the boys in the trenches.

Just like last year, for the next two threads, Im gonna open it up to you guys and let you talk up your "hogs" up front. This time its the O's turn

Not from the Big South obviously but I can't wait to see what ODU lineman David Born can do in his first year with the Monarchs. Originally committed to Sac State and redshirted his freshman season in '09 but then transferred to Bakersfield where he played a year and after the season got some pretty decent offers from programs such as Missouri, UCLA, and USC. He's 6'8" and 355 lbs and only a RS sophomore. Wilder has already said he's first on the depth chart before spring football even began. :thumb:  :notworthy:

I'm pretty stoked about incoming freshman running back, DeAngelo Henderson, so I hope our "hogs" up front can create him some holes.

To me the BIG question is how soon Liberty's O-Line is back to full steam after losing four 11-game starters.
Malcolm Boyd has two years remaining, left guard starter last year, four other linemen appeared in 10 or more
games, so the experience is there, just not as starters. All other starters return on offense so the rhythm
should be caught up by the time the Dukes roll into town. That game will tell how much.

Stony Brook is in nearly the same boat as LU while the rest of the league lose only one or two line starters.
Coastal lost one lineman but a ton of skill personnel. CSU lost one starter, but also some depth as well.
Flames O-line should be the class of the conference, even though rebuilt, with SBU a close second.

VMI has four starters returning for 2011:

RG - James Boatright, 6'1, 290; R-Sr.
LG - Aaron Blue, 6'3, 270, R-Sr. (played OT last year)
LT - Rob Bailey, 6'4, 315, Sr.

RT could be Andy Marcotte; 6'8, 315, R-Fr., or Robert Collins: 6'2, 270, R-Soph.

OL Newcomers: Nate Murray; 6'2, 290. Tommy Payne; 6'3, 295; Jaron Rice; 6'4, 320.

All of us will know more about are respective teams come August 27th or so. ;)

Stony Brook brought in two JUCO's for the spring (one of which was a second team All-American) and recently added an OG from Pitt. We return our two starting tackles as well as Mario Datilo who had three starts last season. O-line is definitely the biggest question mark for Stony Brook heading into the season, but I'm confident the talent is there.
