Friday Question of the Day

Post by tampajag »

Here's a question for the board: If you have a team that had a losing season last year and won no more than 3 games. Do you think it's better to return the bulk of the starters (at least 15)? Or to return less than 10 and basically start over?

I guess it would depend on the potential of the returning starters. But for the most part, I'd rather have more experienced players, at least on my lines, at QB and in the secondary. If you have some young studs to bring in at the skill positions, by all means give 'em a shot.

Towson returns 16 starters, 8 on each side of the ball. Most are second year starters, sophomores and juniors with a few seniors that survived from the old Combs era. I'm just fine with returning an entire o-line.
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

I'm leaning the way of the returning starters. In Southern's case they return 4 starting o line men, two qbs who both started, and 3 or 4 experienced receivers. Defense is inexpirenced on the line and is being filled by transfers as are the linebackers. The secondary returns all starters who are juniors and sophomores. The Jags played over 20 freshmen last year.

Good for Towson. I hope they surprise a few teams in the CAA this year.

I would much rather have the starters back.

Returning players is not working for the Washington Redskins. Turnover hasn't been working for the Pittsburgh Pirates. No good answer here.

Agree it depends. TXST guys just flat out gave up on the season because of the coaching staff. That said.....it also depends on who is returning and who is not. We/I do understand some players do not return, like the very late walk-on PK that played in 1 game at the end of last season...however,

I was nothing but excited with the off season S&C training, the new staff and the new outlook from the players....well, until today (practice started)
Not returning
S Jarrad Stewart (soph) - would be starting Safety (personal reasons)
RB Frank Reddic (jr) - our bruiser back - started against TCU as a true freshman when Bush went down (personal reasons)
WR Daren Dillard (sr) - our #2 guy the past couple of years who would be #1 on the depth charts (McNeese fans will be happy) no reason given for his not returning (we're trying to find out)
OL Jason Hannan (sr) - starting RG - repeated concussions - he decided to call it quits

questions? - RS soph starting NG Prestin Brown - was @ practice today but did not participate.

These guys are all starters and we're all kind of shocked.
