Pelosi: Dems believe nothing more important than jobs

Post by ASUG8 »

WAFJ :ohno:
The American people have made it clear: Our nation's top priority is job creation. No recovery can take place until we address kitchen table concerns of America's families: having a steady paycheck, being able to make ends meet, and helping our small businesses and entrepreneurs attract customers, grow, and hire.
During more than 200 days in the majority, House Republicans have put our economy at risk by threatening a first-ever default on our debt and refusing to propose legislation to create jobs. Instead, they've passed bills that would destroy up to 2 million jobs — nearly 10,000 jobs per day. And every time Democrats have brought a jobs initiative to the floor — 10 times so far — Republicans voted "no."

There's no better way to reduce the deficit than by creating jobs. We must focus squarely on getting our economy back on track, strengthening our middle class, and addressing the American people's kitchen-table concerns. Working together, it's time to place Americans' top priority — job creation — at the top of our agenda.

Nancy, where were you when unemployment was skyrocketing and the economy was headed quickly into the crapper? Oh yeah, it was grandstanding about the triumph of pushing through shoddy healthcare legislation that you didn't read and most of America didn't want. There's a reason you aren't majority leader anymore. :ohno:

Good to know she's back on task now.

Why even lay into your side of choosing to lay into? Both sides have shown they're clueless. This latest debt deal was supposed to be a victory for Republicans (no tax increases, cuts to the poor, etc), and we see what Wall Street thought about it. Everything originates from the Republican-led House. They've got the ball.

I don't know what this means either, but anyway....

No question the debt ceiling was a debacle and both sides should be appalled at how petty it became. I'm just more amazed that Nancy is just finding out that we're teetering on a double dip recession. Does she know she's not Speaker anymore?

Bright lady that Pelosi. Republicans pass a bill in the House to keep the FAA running and what does the Senate do? Reject it and adjourn. And of course President Obama doesn't ever exert his executive powers (like forcing Congress to convene and get shit done), so now a bunch of people are out of jobs.

I have heard that technically, Congress is still in session. Someone goes in there and bangs a gavel twice a day (to keep BO from making any recess appointments).

Does the President really HAVE the power to force Congress to convene? What happened to separate but equal.

Yeah, it's a Constitutional power of the executive branch, but I can't ever remember a President using it. I think they traditionally do it for emergencies, but they technically can issue an order for either the House, Senate, or both to convene. If I was President, Congress would be in session 25 hours a day, 8 days a week.

edit: I take that back. Nothing ever good comes out of Congress when they convene.

Of course, that little issue in Europe known as the liquidity crisis and debt of Italy and Spain had nothing to do with the down markets today.

Not when the GOP only controls one of the two houses and the dems control the executive branch. Sorry, the GOP in no way controls anything nor sets the national agenda currently.

Sure they do. Everything has to first pass the Boehner Bunch before it can get anywhere, and they just showed how dysfunctional they are. I'm not saying the dems are any better, it's just that the reps hold the cards in getting passable legislation started and they just proved that what they can come up with doesn't really solve anything.

You can't POSSIBLY be serious about that comment? "What they could come up with"???? The final bill in NO WAY resembles anything the Republicans in the house started with or wanted. What you get with compromise is shitty bills that don't accomplish anything. Welcome to American politics. The President made it plainly clear that any bill that actually was going to ACCOMPLISH something wouldn't make it past his desk, and the Reps knew they didn't have enough votes to override, so we got a watered down, do-nothing bill that just kicks the can down the road AGAIN. To blame that on the Reps in the house is truly laughable. I'm embarrassed FOR you. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

Obama tried in his smarmy, overtly political way to take advantage of the Constitutional requirement that all revenue bills must originate in the House. The GOP had to show its hand first. And Obama's hand was kept firmly in his pants: he never put his "$4 trillion in cuts" on paper. Like a black Elmer Gantry: a pious fraud.

And while it's plainly obvious he NEVER had a plan, it really doesn't matter (other than it's just another example of completely failed leadership in the White House). HIS mythical "plan" and what was going come from the House were two different animals, and there'd never have been agreement, so we're left with a shitty bill that accomplishes nothing, postpones the inevitiable, allows debt to increase from $14.3T to $22T over the next decade (CUTS...that's fucking laughable)...

If we don't get a balanced budget amendment within the next 18 months, there may be no hope for this country. Because we've seen what Obama is willing to do when he's still got an election to win. God HELP us if he's a lame duck president in a second term with nothing to lose and he can move completely to the uuber-liberal ideologue side he's just DYING to move to.

Looks like public opinion is not with the honks either, just like when Gingrich tried to shut down govt.

Even if implemented "honestly"(Fat chance there!), there were NO CUTS in the deal. There were only "cuts " in the rate of increases. Under the deal, at no time will the expenditures of the government go down.

I think it's sad that people even think of government as responsible for managing the economy.

What I don't like is general acceptance of the idea that the existence of a problem is prima facie evidence that government is responsible for solving it. I don't like putting government in position to manage us as though we are a massive herd of cattle.
