Uhhhh, dummy, first get your quotes straight you pedophile lover. Second, you've been defending pedophiles for years on these threads, so fuck off. If they weren't tried and convicted, you'd be happy, like Joe would. The priest is more important than the slaughtered children, right Z?, you piece of shit. :thumb:

The Papacy as Antichrist

In 1932 the LCMS adopted A Brief Statement of the Doctrinal Position of the Missouri Synod. Statement 43, Of the Antichrist, as found on the synod website, is as follows:

As to the Antichrist we teach that the prophecies of the Holy Scriptures concerning the Antichrist, 2 Thess. 2:3–12; 1 John 2:18, have been fulfilled in the Pope of Rome and his dominion. All the features of the Antichrist as drawn in these prophecies, including the most abominable and horrible ones, for example, that the Antichrist "as God sitteth in the temple of God," 2 Thess. 2:4; that he anathematizes the very heart of the Gospel of Christ, that is, the doctrine of the forgiveness of sins by grace alone, for Christ's sake alone, through faith alone, without any merit or worthiness in man (Rom. 3:20-28; Gal. 2:16); that he recognizes only those as members of the Christian Church who bow to his authority; and that, like a deluge, he had inundated the whole Church with his antichristian doctrines till God revealed him through the Reformation – these very features are the outstanding characteristics of the Papacy. (Cf. Smalcald Articles, Triglot, p. 515, Paragraphs 39-41; p. 401, Paragraph 45; M. pp. 336, 258.) Hence we subscribe to the statement of our Confessions that the Pope is "the very Antichrist."(Smalcald Articles, Triglot, p. 475, Paragraph 10; M., p. 308.)[16]

A frequently asked question page on the LCMS website further explains:

The LCMS does not teach, nor has it ever taught, that any individual Pope as a person, is to be identified with the Antichrist. The historic view of LCMS on the Antichrist is summarized as follows by the Synod's Theological Commission:

The New Testament predicts that the church throughout its history will witness many antichrists (Matt. 24:5,23-24; Mark 13:6,21-22; Luke 21:8; 1 John 2:18,22; 4:3; 2 John 7). All false teachers who teach contrary to Christ's Word are opponents of Christ and, insofar as they do so, are anti-Christ.

However, the Scriptures also teach that there is one climactic "Anti-Christ" (Dan. 7:8,11,20-21,24-25; 11:36-45; 2 Thessalonians 2; 1 John 2:18; 4:3; Revelation 17-18)... Concerning the historical identity of the Antichrist, we affirm the Lutheran Confessions' identification of the Antichrist with the office of the papacy whose official claims continue to correspond to the Scriptural marks listed above. It is important, however, that we observe the distinction which the Lutheran Confessors made between the office of the pope (papacy) and the individual men who fill that office. The latter could be Christians themselves. We do not presume to judge any person's heart. Also, we acknowledge the possibility that the historical form of the Antichrist could change. Of course, in that case another identified by these marks would rise. To the extent that the papacy continues to claim as official dogma the canons and decrees of the Council of Trent which expressly anathematizes, for instance, the doctrine "that justifying faith is nothing else than trust in divine mercy which remits sins for Christ's sake, or that it is that trust alone by which we are justified," the judgment of the Lutheran confessional writings that the papacy is the Antichrist holds.[17] :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

You don't seriously believe this? You are aware that every Church in direct, unbroken succession to a Church founded in the First Century by one of the apostles, including the Eastern Orthodox Churches, all accept the primacy of the Bishop of Rome as the successor to Peter?

The Antichrist referenced in Revelation was the emperor Nero. Neron = 666; Nero = 616 (which was the original number of the Beast in the earliest writing of Revelation).

If you have problems with the hierarchy of Rome which prevents you from feeling welcome in the Roman Catholic Church, perhaps you should look into one of the Eastern Catholic Churches or the Eastern Orthodox Church. But I'd much rather belong to a Church founded by one the apostles than a church "reformed" by a man.

that reformed man was a Catholic monk who was appalled at what the "vicar of Christ" was doing. Gay orgies, yep that was Leo X. Having naked boys dance at his b-day parties? Yep, Leo X. Selling indulgences to get "souls out of purgatory"? Yep, Leo X and his main monkey boy Johan Tetsel. "When the coin in the coffer rings, the soul from purgatory springs."

As Christians, we are called to believe that there are no more revelations after Christ Jesus life, death, and resurrection other than his second coming. I have been told NUMEROUS times by Catholics about oh how great the Marian apparitions are, that Mary is the only way to come to Jesus-TOLD TO ME BY A CURRENT DEACON JUST 4 MONTHS AG0-and how Jesus "wants us" to pray the Rosary. Right.......................

No thank you. The Lutheran Church is what Catholicsm should be without all the guilt. St. Peter in scripture plainly details himself as "Bishop among brethren". He never once claimed papal infallibility, he never once called himself the vicar of Christ either.

No offense Joe, my sister is still a Catholic, but enough was enough for me. VERY much at home as a Lutheran.

Fuck Joe and fuck the catholic church. MOF, do the right thing and get out of the church altogether. There is no salvation or heaven or hell. We rot after death just like the groundhog on the side of the road. Joe and others here are attracted to religion because they think they'll be reunited with family, children, etc. but it's bullshit. It's a marketing ploy used by the church to get your money and retain power over people who cannot think for themselves.

You and your children will most likely die cruel and painful deaths and eventually no one will remember them.

The pope is a man, and like any man, he can be tempted and do evil. I wouldn't put too much stock in any man, and that includes Luther, an anti-Semite whose writings were frequently cited by the Nazis to its predominantly Lutheran citizenry. However, the Church, founded by Christ and taken by his apostles throughout the world, endures because it is the followers of Christ in communion with him; and it endures even through periods of scandalous leadership. Indeed evil has no greater reward than to cause a man of the cloth to fail, because his failure can destroy the faith of others.

I'm always amused by how much non-Catholic Christians emphasize the doctrine of papal infallibility, in that the right of the Pope to speak from the Chair of Peter, ex cathedra, has been invoked so infrequently throughout history and only once in modern times -- and not once in the past 61 years.

Someone once said to me that he believed your afterlife will be what you believe it will be.

You know, I've considered your position, and it intuitively strikes me as wrong. If you are right, there is really no reason for sacrifice, caring about others, etc. We should just max out on what pleases us until we drop. But such a lifestyle inevitably causes on to be unhappy, because it seems we are called to something greater, to live in community, to share, to care about others. Where does that come from?

One of the more interesting developments in the study of the human brain is that scientists have confirmed that thoughts about God trigger higher-function, abstract brain activity in humans (which is interesting, because I've always said and noted since my college days that, when discussing God, the atheists I have encountered always seem incapable of carrying out the discussion on an abstract level -- at the point the discussion gets philosophical, the atheist resorts to punch lines which either diminish the concept of God (i.e, like the Tooth Fairy in the Sky) or attacks the intelligence of the believer (like Christopher Hitchens).

Of course, man is a highly-evolved creature and the most intelligent of the creatures. If God and faith in God were but myths, you would think that man, as a highly-evolved creature, would have evolved past this so-called remnant of an age when he relied on myth and superstition. But it seems as if we (or at least most of us) are "programmed" to respond to the thought of God and indeed move into higher-brain functions when the subject comes up. It certainly is a curious thing.

I've tired of reading the Catholic threads. They're always the same. But I will offer this fun reading!

Delaware priest stole $305K from elderly woman: http://www.delawareonline.com/article/2 ... y=obinsite
WILMINGTON -- For the second time in six months, a Roman Catholic priest is facing felony theft charges in New Castle County Superior Court.

A New Castle County Grand Jury this week indicted the Rev. Michael Angeloni on charges that he stole $305,000 from an elderly female parishioner...
Delaware Catholic church just doled out $25M to some of the men it diddled when they were little guys. One school, TWELVE child molesters. It's nice to see them begin to make some reparations for their terrible crimes. My condolences to the numerous posters on this board and GoHens who may or may not have had to endure these POSs. I know we have multiple Salesianum grads on the boards. Makes me glad I wasn't raised Catholic: http://www.delawareonline.com/article/2 ... |text|Home
WILMINGTON -- The Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, the Catholic religious order that runs Salesianum School, on Thursday reached a $24.8 million settlement with survivors of sexual abuse by its priests.

As part of the settlement, the order released a list naming those 12 priests for the first time...

Bullshit boilerplate christian argument.

People behave because life is generally easier when you do. Done. :coffee:

Joe, there is no heaven and no hope that you will see your family ever again after you die. Deal with it and quit funding your evil church.
"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

How does it make life easier?

Wouldn't life be easier if I didn't care for anyone else and just looked out for myself, didn't have to forgive others who wronged me, didn't volunteer my time or money, didn't attend church every Sunday, didn't to follow the teachings of the Bible, etc...?
