Cockfights, eh? I wonder if the journalists back then got the story right. Maybe they just assumed birds were fighting each other, but in reality, it was........ Re: VCU expresses interest in acquiring City Stadium
I think as more and more teams decide to start a football program, I think VCU will feel the pressure to start a program of their own. For instance, while it won't affect them at all I see that Houston Baptist is deciding to start a football program. VCU isn't like UR, WM, Towson where they are perfectly content with staying where they are now.

Exactly. There are gonna be some very disappointed fan bases of certain CAA football programs in about 5 years.......and they won't be the ones that support ODU, JMU, and Georgia State.ODUalum11 wrote:VCU isn't like UR, WM, Towson where they are perfectly content with staying where they are now.

Yap, Yap, Yap - The Maine fan would certainly know what it's like to be 'disappointed', so I'll take your word for it.mainejeff wrote:Exactly. Since you're full of opinions, where are ODU, JMU and Georgia State going, exactly?
While you're at it, have you determined where Maine and their big brother New Hampshire are supposedly going?
Have you had your Summer's Eve gargle yet today?

Saw this article on Rivals and it reminded me of the discussion we had about various people ball tonguing the vaunted 757.

Not sure if it's premium content or not, but Rivals 'crunched the numbers' and came up with the 10 best states for BCS signees over the last 10 years:
1. Texas
2. Florida
3. California
4. Georgia
5. Ohio
6. Pennsylvania
7. Virginia
8. Alabama
9. N. Carolina
10. N. Jersey

I know JMU has been targeting North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Texas a lot recently. New Jersey, Florida and Georgia are also areas that JMU has focused on hard in the past. Add in Virginia ... and these are pretty fertile recruiting grounds!State Line Liquors wrote: 1. Texas

Rob Iola - What does Harrisonburg have to do with this conversation? Harrisonburg is turning the corner pointing towards "college town." The JMU campus is growing and is nearing the dowtown area and bringing JMU $ with it...better restaurants & bars...
We all have issues but our issues are different than those of ODU & VCU.

Wow, this thread has sure veered far from the topic of VCU & City Stadium.

As I have said in the past, when/if Delaware, JMU and now ODU move up. Towson will go, whether be a smart move or not. Those are the schools Towson idendifies with. Unitas Stadium has 3 more expansion phases already drawn up.ODUalum11 wrote:I think as more and more teams decide to start a football program, I think VCU will feel the pressure to start a program of their own. "Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

Towson better move up. What would we do without you?!andy7171 wrote:As I have said in the past, when/if Delaware, JMU and now ODU move up. Towson will go, whether be a smart move or not. Listen Abdul, even with the 1-10 record last year, we broke the home attendance record. It's only going to go up this year.∞∞∞ wrote:Towson better move up. Andy at Towson game:
Oh and off subject but did you see this?
I thought this was an interesting quote from Mike Giles from ESPN.com
"We have written extensively about the rebuilding effort being undertaken by Pat Skerry at Towson. Though the Tigers may be around the .500 mark next season, they are positioned to be one of the toughest teams in the CAA in 2012-13."

Re: VCU expresses interest in acquiring City Stadium
Congrats man! So you showed up to all 6 games instead of the usual 5 to break it?andy7171 wrote:Listen Abdul, even with the 1-10 record last year, we broke the home attendance record. It's only going to go up this year.
No I didn't, but if there's anything I've learned as a mid-major basketball fan in the last seven or eight years, it's that ESPN knows close to nothing about non-BCS schools. I wouldn't trust a 1-month prediction out of them, let alone something that's a year and a half away.andy7171 wrote:Oh and off subject but did you see this?I thought this was an interesting quote from Mike Giles from ESPN.com

Re: VCU expresses interest in acquiring City Stadium
If anything, it shows an ignorance of how tough the CAA is. No doubt Towson's going to improve, but really? One of the toughest teams in 2 years?...may as well have said one of the toughest in the country.∞∞∞ wrote:Congrats man! A simple "and then there's Harrisonburg" aside from March gets your knickers in a bunch now? But I agree with everything you say here - there's nowhere for Harrisonburg to go but up...JMUpurplehazed wrote:Rob Iola - What does Harrisonburg have to do with this conversation?
