Wow.

Alex Morgan puts the game away with a ridiculous golazo.

3-1 USA

Outplayed all game and they managed the W... that was impressive.

The defense was stout - only allowing 1 goal despite the constant attacking by the French... that's pretty remarkable.

The coach of the US deserves all the credit - I've never seen better use or timing of subs in any match...

Shifting gears off Team USA for a second, England's coach apparently accused her team of weakness and cowardice when not enough of them "volunteered" to take PKs in the shoot-out. Am I the only one who thinks the Limeys were paying this coach to have a better plan for a shoot-out in out rounds of the World Cup than asking for "volunteers?"

PK volunteers are for U-10 house leagues. You damn sure better have a list put together of who is taking them if you're the coach and you're in a knock-out tournament. You put your best shooters 1 & 5 so if something goes wrong in between the last shooter doesn't choke. You mix it up, left and right footed shooters, cheeky shooters, power shooters, keep the goalie guessing. Don't allow them to recognize a pattern or get comfortable and make it a little easier to figure out where the shot is guessing.

Back to Team USA, Sundhage made them practice PKs before the knockout round started :thumb:

They're great representatives of our country. I'd rather care about them than multi-millionaires who go on strike.

To take it a step further, they barely get compensated, get almost zero attention any other time, and have no true league to call their own. And yet, in all their interviews, they talk about playing for pride and country and the "American Way." I mean they epitomize what sports should be about, are role models to young men and women, and are a bright spot in a time where America is struggling...and yet people still bitch and disrespect them. And here we wonder why our country is in the shitter. Maybe part of it is our crappy attitude?
