Lots of poetic justice in this one. Dumb bitch Erika fakes serious injury to waste time, US scores in injury time to send it to PKs. Bogus redo on the penalty that Solo saved; Solo makes an even better save to clinch it. :notworthy:

I don't know shit about soccer, or this stupid movement rule...but the Brazilian goalkeeper moved forward WAY more on every PK than Hope did on any of her PK save attempts.

Speaking of Hope....I think I need to watch soccer more

Goalkeepers do it all the time... it's whether anyone bothers to call it or not.

We won the 1999 World Cup by doing that.

Game winning save at 9:00. Though, all her save attempts she jumps 2 or 3 yards forward before ball kicked.

Goalie encroachment in soccer is like traveling in the NBA. It happens a lot, but it's rarely called.

And the shooter is never called for the dead Christiano Ronaldo full stop, either. PKs are such a bullshit handicapping of goalies anyway, to take away the one edge we may get when the shooter can start their approach from as far back as they want, fuck that.

And the call wasn't encroachment on the US defender on the PK - the ref called it on Solo:
Shortly following the post-match news conferences, soccer's often bumbling governing body, FIFA, said it was because Solo went forward before the ball was struck. Replays didn't really support the argument.

It wasn't a rule back then. And actually T-Dog, they enforce it pretty heavily today in the women's game. If the shooter scores, they usually won't call it, but if the goalie blocks it, they will. It's definitely not as enforced in the men's game though.

edit: nevermind, I found the 1999 FIFA rulebook and it says it's a foul. Clearly they didn't care back then.

Trip, I've been a soccer ref since I was 14 and have reffed a couple thousand matches. The thought regarding goalie encroachment is that the shooter has the odds heavily stacked in their favor and if the goalie makes a step forward, it's fine. Also, there's no instant replay and sometimes it's a bang-bang call and when in doubt, don't call it.

As a former goalie myself, I admit I'm a bit biased in letting my people get some breaks. They could save 99/100 shots and get blamed while the striker scores that one time out of a hundred and is loved.

I'm not sure what you reffing has to do with anything. Just watch the women's game over time, they enforce it pretty strictly when the goalie gets the block if they stepped off the line before the kick. If the goal is scored, they just ignore it. It happened during Euro 2009 qualifying, Euro 2009, this World Cup's qualifying, and now the World Cup itself. FIFA clearly gave orders to closely watch out for it, at least in the women's game. I don't think they care one bit that the goalie is at a huge disadvantage (I mean the whole point of a penalty kick is to give the the kicker an overwhelming advantage...that's why it's a penalty kick...to penalize the other team).

Read the write-up on this game, did Brazil get a yellow card for faking an injury? Getting carried off & then coming right back on? If so, kudos for soccer - that's been one of the many reasons people in the USA can't get into it.

So, has anyone figured out why SuperHornet doesn't care about the women's world cup?

Only cares about women playing butch sports? :?

Who said I don't care about girls soccer? I STILL have a crush on Brandi Chastain. Have you already forgotten what SHE's famous for, KY?

And since when is girls VB "butch?" Didn't you see me going gaga over the Pan Am Cup? The amazingly hot captain went to my first four-year school, and she's a good friend of mine.

Why don't you go play with Nessie for a while?

:ohno:

Haha. Calm down. Just found it odd that you post about every obscure women's sport... but, are totally absent from discussion on the greatest women's soccer event in 12 years.

And, no, I haven't forgotten what Brandi Chastain is famous for... considering I posted a video of what she is famous for on this page.

I'm baffled as to why a thread about a panzy-ass sport, played by women, has garnered this many posts. Not even important enough to read through to find out. :coffee:

GATW, give me the sparknotes version; we all know you're a chick that plays soccer.
