I think it looks hideous as well. Going to swing by the stadium this afternoon to check it out in person. Will report back.Aho Old Guy wrote: Hopefully, it's an op-tickle delusion, or part of a not-so-master stroke of genius that it will fade to a simple yellow ... by 2917.

The yellow/gold isn't as bad as one might think. And they still got the black pellets and script to put down.

I hope you're right T-dog. This isn't on the scale of EWU or UCA's fields, but that retina-searing yellow doesn't belong from the pics goasu.com has posted.T-Dog wrote:Took some pics around high noon.

Will all the players be issued sunglasses.
Once the black pellets are put down, it will take it down a notch.
If you go by, keep a look out for scraps. I got a nice piece from Foreman Field, makes a fun tailgate item.

I also hope that about a hundred people standing on it each game will minimize the visual.ASUG8 wrote:I hope you're right T-dog. Re: Game Thread: App State Turf Replacment/Crown Removal
I bet it will, you'll have 100 players plus coaches, student managers, trainers, team equipment, benches scattered everywhere on the sideline so I think all of that will minimize it. Plus they still have to put down the rubber pellets which will probably darken it somewhat.T-Dog wrote:I also hope that about a hundred people standing on it each game will minimize the visual.ASUG8 wrote:

A beautiful thing is happening right now.
The Block A is being constructed at midfield.

Is it turf or paint? Hard to tell from the webcam what they're doing exactly. From the JMU construction thread it looks like their endzones came already complete whereas KBS will be painted I'm guessing.T-Dog wrote:A beautiful thing is happening right now.

Everything so far has been turf, even the hash marks.
For example.

Re: Game Thread: App State Turf Replacment/Crown Removal
It looks like they just rolled out the "A" over top of the existing green turf without cutting it out. Also, it seems like embedding all those hash marks would cause a ton of extra seams that could tear loose with players making cuts across them.T-Dog wrote:Everything so far has been turf, even the hash marks.

Re: Game Thread: App State Turf Replacment/Crown Removal
Since I was out there yesterday, I just realized that those hash marks with the turf cut out were on the sideline for the media. The ones on the field were hammered down with no embedding.

I might try to go by Fri if I get some of my mowing done - and I'm always looking for some young App-bucks to help with that (as long as they don't require a sustainable living wage

Re: Game Thread: App State Turf Replacment/Crown Removal
Went out there again this afternoon. The Block A looks awesome. There's over a 100 massive bags of pellets in the parking lot. The turf fibers feel longer as the pellets aren't in yet. I heard that once the pellets are in, all the fibers will be straight up and all the gold will match. Right now the fibers are leaning in different directions based on how they were stored for transport.
Looks a lot better in person than it does on a high-angle webcam that's out of focus.

Would look much better with black endzones.

Re: Game Thread: App State Turf Replacment/Crown Removal
You know something. I'm betting the Field Turf people have actually done this before and have a pretty good idea how to put this stuff down so it stays in place. The exisitng strands are shaved off the backing (as shown in the photo) and the inserts are held in place with a commercial hot glue. The combined weight of the sand base and rubber pellets will make sure nothing comes up. Feel better now?ASUG8 wrote:It looks like they just rolled out the "A" over top of the existing green turf without cutting it out. Re: Game Thread: App State Turf Replacment/Crown Removal
Pipe down Francis....if you have 4.4 speed, are a potential NFL recruit, and you're turning on a painted surface vs. one with a seam for every hashmark how would you feel? Are you going to turn a knee on paint or on one of several dozen seams put on the field?ASUSandman wrote:You know something.
