Last year coolers and grills were allowed in the mall, the first year they weren't. The only problem, you have to get them there.
With max tickets allotment for visiting fans about 1,000 and with CAA play starting this year. ODU should open a lot up, maybe the orange lot. I did make the recommendation last year to the Big Blue Club, but their first concern is the BBC donors. If you can get $500/yr from a ODU supporter, why try to get $20/gm from a visitor.
With about 15K in season ticket holders, most giving bucks the tailgate lots are prime. There are about 12 tailgate lots, some are big. You can just go into them (without a car) and have a good time. We have a big group about 24-30 in light blue with 5 spots. During the Cal-Poly game, a large group of CP fans and family members joined our group. Game day at ODU is an excellent time, just search it out.

As far as all those others besides Brown that I highlighted, I assume they are all season ticket holder lots?∞∞∞ wrote:Lot 52 doesn't exist anymore, and I don't think 54 nor 55 will either by the end of the summer (teacher housing being built). ODU fans, what time/how many hrs before kickoff do those Lots open up gameday?

As for confirming the open spaces in BROWN lot, I can't 'cause I'm the one who gave you that info (I'm smudge). Hopefully someone else will be able to give you further confirmation about that, but calling up ODU is probably easier.
ps. there are places around campus (Baptist Ministry comes to mind immediately) that charge a fee for being able to park and tailgate on their property. Not sure how much, and spaces are probably limited, but that's another option.
I pulled up another map of ODU and pulled up the distance from the intersection by that Brown Lot, Powatan and 43rd to an intersection right by the stadium Bluestone and Melrose, and it said only 3/4 of a mile. That's only a 15-20 min walk. Not a big deal.
I'm sure some JMU folks over on the zone will call ODU as it gets closer to the game which is about 4 1/2 months away and post what they are told about the Brown Lot.

I gotta tailgate where I park. Too much stuff to haul any type of distance. That goes for most people I know/tailgate with.DaBigBlue wrote:∞∞∞ wrote: But beer isn't allowed on the mall though, right?

W&M had a hospitality tent set up on the mall, and some folks went there pre-game. It's fairly close to Garage D, but even if you just took a cooler, you'd have to take it back to the garage before the game.

Re: The Oyster Bowl
The Oyster Bowl game if the weather is good, will have 40-50K people on campus and surrounding area and it could be more. That's what we had for both Homecoming games the past two year, a lot for people just hanging out on campus. We had about 15 at our tailgate who didn't have tics. So park early. Buying a tailgating pass on craigslist isn't a bad option to make certain you have a spot, exceptionally if you are bringing a bunch of gear. Most ODU fans are middle-age, so there isn't any problem tailgating next to them. Most ODU fans are humble about our program, knowing we haven't really done anything. Not like a bunch of drunk kids.

Re: The Oyster Bowl
Yeah, the farthest lot people can park in/tailgate in is the the parking lot over by the powhatan sports complex which is from the opposite corner from where Foreman Field is...might sound far but like you said its only about a 15-20 minute walk. Also the lot was never even close to full, let alone people actually tailgating there.BDKJMU wrote:As far as all those others besides Brown that I highlighted, I assume they are all season ticket holder lots?∞∞∞ wrote: Lot 52 doesn't exist anymore, and I don't think 54 nor 55 will either by the end of the summer (teacher housing being built).
