We know you didn't talk smack. He was just trying to keep your credibility level high. When someone posts something that is not correct on a football board their credibility for info. drops and it drops fast. Let it slide. It was an hour later when you corrected yourself. I know everybody has other things more important than internet stuff.Wildcat Ryan wrote:grizzaholic wrote:

One can get away with it in the Locker Room but on the football and sports boards you have to have your info correct. One doesn't want another poster to be labled as a full of shit person and then you lose all credibility when you post.
Just letting you know.
I wasnt trying to talk smack, Like I said I had forgotten at the time that the Great West was only a football Conference, and I was only thinking that if NAU where dropping their Football program to save money, instead they could keep it and join the Great West where for them travel costs would be low, cause most of the teams are really close.
But like I said I had forgotten about the GW being a football only conference, I wasnt saying it to make someone mad or saying NAU sucks so they should leave, Im a Weber State fan after all.

This is true, and the fans did come out and save the program, but I dont think Weber's football programwill be dropped.
First of all the Football team isnt losing money, our average fan base last year was 7,000 which for Weber is actually good,(sad to say).
2. Weber had just upgraded their locker rooms and weight rooms under the Football stadium, they built a brand new Scoreboard with a screen 3 years ago, they also tore up thier old practice fields and put in nice new turf fields and just built an indor practice facility where if the weather is bad they can practice indoors.
3. The school is allowing the football team to spend more money on recruiting, not to mention the school is doing something it has never done before, and that is bus students to away games.
Weber is not hurting for money, they might play 2 FBS teams every year, but they are no Oklahoma, Weber schedules FBS teams that they hope they can upset, like this year when we play Wyoming and Colorado State, both close and winnable, and next year when we play wyoming again and Utah State, both winnable.
No such comments about hurting for money have come out of Weber State. It wont be Weber State.

I couldn't think it would be Sac St. though because didn't they just drop 10+ mill into their stadium and another 10+ mill into athletic facilities?

...but beyond the financial...SacState Admin/AD (I hope) has finally got the message that successful football programs MAKE MONEY for the school in the long run. There's been a "pendulum" swing away from the Title 9/Soccer Mom mentality in Sacramento just in the past two years, and the handwriting on the wall is that CSU Administrators who target "non-PC" football for cuts will have shortened tenure.

Re: Big Sky Team Considering Dropping Football?
What I was saying WR is that maybe somebody is considering dropping football but maybe it is somewhat of a ploy to get the fan support back up in the region or lose the football program altogether like they accomplished with a similar tactic in Ogden? I'm just thinking that may also be a possibility...Wildcat Ryan wrote:Ursus A. Agreed it isnt Sac State. My best bet is that its both NAU and ISU. ISU barely just got saved by scheduling a body bag game with Oklahoma. They may be fine for this year but what about next? Or a few years down the road? And NAU is no better what with their poor attendance numbers. I do agree that if they moved into the GW it may make it easier on them financial wise in terms of travel but that is probably a long shot.

Why the hell would NAU leave the Big Sky to join the Great West?
Really, please think before you post. You do know that the Great West is a football only conference.
Actually, the Great West isn't football-only anymore. They've started sponsoring other sports and they're sponsoring basketball (using most of the current independents across the country) starting next season. They don't have an NCAA auto-bid, though, so it still wouldn't make sense for NAU to leave the Big Sky for the GWC, of course.
Oh, come on, seriously? Montana's athletic department net revenue dwarfs the rest of the conference.NAU has the best all around athletic department in the Big Sky, year in and year out.

Who is talking revenue? I am talking performance for the ENTIRE athletic program. Who wins the all-sport trophy (or is second) year after year? Who has the only nationally (not just FCS) ranked teams in the Big Sky? NAU in cross-country and track.Mvemjsunpx wrote:dbackjon wrote:

I know Montanans only think of two sports - football and basketball, which is great - Montana is the envy of the conference in football and women's hoops. But all-around, NAU has the best program.

Re: Big Sky Team Considering Dropping Football?
Im not so sure,
Weber always has a good mens basketball team, ( Its what the school is famous for)
Weber's women's Basketball (excluding this year) has always been really good
Weber always has great track and field teams
Weber's women soccer is always tough.
And now the future is looking brighter for Weber's football team.

Because making money and bringing in students/graduating students are the two most important aspects of a university athletic department. Winning is important, but pretty much just as a means toward bringing in fans and making money for the school. Winning can bring in more non-athletic students, too, but mainly just for the revenue sports like football and basketball. If a school couldn't bring in revenue from athletics, what would even be the point in having university-sponsored athletics at all? They're paying (directly or indirectly) for the athletes' education, after all. Why do that if the financial upside isn't at least potentially there? Schools don't sponsor athletics for the thrill of competition or beating a rival, they do it ultimately for the money… or at least for the hope of money.
The all-sports trophy and Presidents' Cups are nice, but, for better or worse, people don't really pay attention to those.

SacBuzz is reporting that the school in question is NAU, citing an article in an Idaho newspaper.
This news couldn't come at a worse time for Sac since that would lose us a home game against a quality foe. The culprit is apparently a draconian budget cut of around $1-8M.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Eastern has the most creative logo, it looks cool. BUT Weber State's Logo is by far the coolest one.

Even though this has nothing to do with what this thread is talking about.
