The problem with these ecologists is that they overlook economic and demographic factors. Also, new technology becomes available that can make resource use more efficient and can allow you to access resources that you previously couldn't. Predictions of malthusian catastrophes are not new and they have old ones have failed for these reasons. Anyone remember the 1970s when they said we had about 15 years of oil left? Anyone remember Paul Ehrlich saying most of Britain's population would starve in the 70s?

Even if you overlook these factors, the populations of developed countries are all about to drop off a cliff and the environment will be the least of our concerns and no one will remember any of this overpopulation hysteria.
