Of course Planned Parenthood and choice supporters are one target of the satire. They're in there, aren't they? But it's also blatantly clear that the bigger targets of the piece are the not-so-sharp pro-lifers who, as shown in the original post, reacted predictably, thinking that the article was legit. That's by far the most hilarious byproduct of the article, and I'm fairly certain, the intended outcome of The Onion's editors when they approved the story.
Surely you are not a stupid person and we can just assume you're doing some "lawyering" again in this thread?
Joe was one of the effeminate kids who had "those" parents who showered him with too much, and often undeserved, praise. You know, shit like "you're the cutest, smartest little baby in the whole wide world, aren't you" They wouldn't let him play sports because he was too fragile and they didn't want him to get dirty. He was often plagued with asthma, allergies and other illnesses born from living in a sterile, controlled environment - but also having to go in to the dirty world on occassion. Yes, he did get his ass kicked by other boys and girls as he got older - for being a weird little sneak and asshole.
He is also the product of brainwashing. Since birth he's had catholic dogma shoved down his throat by well-meaning but utterly clueless parents. His position on this thread is indicative of someone who is neck deep in a cult and can't entertain possibilities other than those approved by the Vatican, his old man or a fucking priest.
Being spoiled and pampered as a child, he eventually became an arrogant pompous ass as an adult, and one who lashes out when challenged and will do anything, including lie, to save face.
The Onion piece expertly and hilariously gave us a glimpse into the mind of a pro-lifer. They do, in varying degrees, believe the fantasy depicted in the piece. They believe that evil women regularly use abortion as birth control. They do believe that PP is an abortion factory, MOF, it's not an uncommon remark used by them. They do believe women willy nilly will stop into a PP clinic, with a double expresso latte, and ho hum have an abortion while on thier celll phone setting up a post-abortion shopping date with Ashley and the girls. They do believe ALL PP does is perform abortions.
All the Onion did, and they do it well, was take the irrational and uninformed fears (of PP and of women) of the average pro-lifer and extend them to the point of hilarious absurdity, with great results.
Joe is actually the more even-handed of the cs.com pro-lifers, but check out some of Tman's posts on the subject and you'll see what I mean. The piece is essentially Tman's thoughts regarding PP, on steriods. Idiots like him were the target and we're all laughing.

The Onion was started in Madison, WI - and is now based in NY - the staff of the paper are, to put it mildly - big time liberals. Read it for a year and tell me you don't see it.
This was a lampoon of the hyperbole-riddled pro-life movement and their attempts to de-fund PP. And, judging by the number of people who posted this article who were "outraged" - It appears they hit their mark right between the eyes.

Hard to find stats that aren't biased one way or the other, but I had read once that 48% of abortions in the US were from repeat customers. That's not to say those women are "willy-nilly" but again, compared to a pro-lifer, they are.

I'm delayed at the airport (again), all worked out, and tempted to say something provocative to get this thread rolling again.
BTW, I actually was reading a hard copy of The Onion at the coffee shop this morning. The stuff that gets linked to internet blogs and boards is definitely the cream of its crop. Overall, it's pathetic and unfunny. The recent cover stroy of the 500-foot Bin Laden rising from the sea and destroying American cities was a complete waste of time.
