It's friggin' hilarious when someone gets lampooned and laughs along because he's too obtuse to get that he's the butt of the joke.

How about the floor plan showing, "The Child-Day Care Center" where "Young children can play in this supervised area while their unborn siblings are terminated elsewhere in the facility"?

Or how about the "Adoption Center" where women can adopt unwanted cats and dogs.

Yea, that's commentary about how pro-lifers don't grasp that only 3% of PP's mission is abortion-related. That commentary has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with to the casual indifference to abortion among PP supporters -- or how they flip over poor cats and dogs without a home.

And yet he just laughs along.

No, no, no, no, Tman.

The joke about the Adoption Center where women can give a loving home to an unwanted dog or cat has NOTHING to do with the attitudes about abortion supporters.

At best, it's lampooning both sides Jo.
The remaining space is dedicated to amenities such as coffee shops, bars, dozens of restaurants and retail outlets, a three-story nightclub, and a 10-screen multiplex theater—features intended not only to help clients relax, but to foster a sense of community and make abortion more of a social event.
As though you can make an abortion a pleasant thing by sprucing up the place a bit, or that pro-choicers believe that's even possible.

It appears you're over-thinking this one a bit.

Not over-thinking it. The satirical "beat" at the end of almost every paragraph returns to the theme of Richards saying something which trivializes abortion, or commentary that does the same. As you know, when you read/write satire, the punch is always in the curl at the end of the paragraph.

Comments about stopping tiny little beating hearts or sucking a uterus clean are completely unnecessary otherwise.

I get your point and will straight up acknowledge you probably have a much richer background in the rules of satire. But still, perhaps the true satire here lies in the probability that no one involved with planned parenthood makes abortion a trivial matter.

Ya think? That's the whole point: PP recites its "97 percent" figure as if it isn't the nation's largest provider, by far, of abortion services (a fact which it tries to obscure) and that abortion services account for 15% of its annual revenue.

Why can't you just accept that the Onion is satirizing PP's extremism? An adoption center for unwanted cats and dogs? If that isn't satire which touches a raw-nerved truth about abortion advocates, what is it?

Look, I have cited to repeated instances in the text, and accompanying "floor plan," to support my contention that this piece is aimed at PP, and I have explained why this text supports my position, given its placement in the overall structure of this article. Simply saying that the "true satire" is something else, without any real analysis, doesn't really cut it. Where are you seeing this? Why?

And the beauty of this satire is that, of course, its targets insist that it is not possible that they are the intended targets -- out of touch, just as charged in this piece. Hysterical that it was PP supporters who started a thread about this piece.

Joe, were you beaten up a lot as a kid?

Of course Planned Parenthood and choice supporters are one target of the satire. They're in there, aren't they? But it's also blatantly clear that the bigger targets of the piece are the not-so-sharp pro-lifers who, as shown in the original post, reacted predictably, thinking that the article was legit. That's by far the most hilarious byproduct of the article, and I'm fairly certain, the intended outcome of The Onion's editors when they approved the story.

Surely you are not a stupid person and we can just assume you're doing some "lawyering" again in this thread?

What's predictable is the "creation" of bogus statements from Facebook by pro-abortionists. You fell for that too.

PS -- I find that the "beaten up a lot as a kid" line is usually used by people who were beaten up a lot as a kid. Sorry to disappoint you, but I had a very happy childhood and still count among my friends (actual friends, not just people on the internet) kids I know from when we were small.

I love the way you go for the joke when cornered.

Show me one instance where a legitimate pro-life website or pro-lifer thought this was real ...

It's telling that, if you google this, the only "source" you see for the claim that pro-lifers thought this was real is this single image stored on i.imgur.com, albeit cited innumerable times on message boards and blogs. :coffee:

Pro-choicers, having nothing really on their side, always go for the bullshit that pro-lifers are stupid. They know they can't win a debate on the merits, so they try to make people feel that being pro-life means being stupid.

Also, the "3 percent" mantra is a total ruse. Abortion services account for 15% of PP's revenues, which means abortion is a friggin' cash cow for PP. If we're going to debate in terms of percentage, we should discuss abortion in terms of its overall significance to PP -- 15% of revenue. I think I speak for all business operators when I say if we had a practice area at out firm which performed only 3% of our services, but accounted for 15% of our profit, we would do anything to protect that service area.

And I love the way you're willing to consider the other side or admit mistakes. :coffee:

I actually liked your cynicism regarding the comments and much of what you say makes sense except for the part that both sides weren't the target. You're very smart and persuasive and I'm getting better at realizing when when to call it a draw. Btw, you did get it that my joke was an intentionally weak satirical rebuttal/homage to your pro abortion remark, right? :thumb:
