As a Rockies fan, I don't know who to blame for that one. Both de la Rosa and Iannetta screwed that up pretty good. Good game tonight, fellas, we'll hope to get the split tomorrow.93henfan wrote:Sure did. Catcher really didn't do the pitcher any favors keeping his glove right-side up.citdog wrote:

Well, with Blanton pitching, you should have a 3-0 lead after the first half-inning. Probably the worst first-inning pitcher in baseball.free7694 wrote:As a Rockies fan, I don't know who to blame for that one. Both de la Rosa and Iannetta screwed that up pretty good. Re: Phillies Parade
These Phillies remind me more and more of the White Sox of the 60s: solid pitching and virtually no hitting. Single, steal second, 3rd on WP, score on sac fly = rally!

Re: Phillies Parade
Blanton was scratched for Kendrick and, right on cue, Kendrick gives up three in the top half of the first. That may be enough for the Rocks with this Phils offense.93henfan wrote:Well, with Blanton pitching, you should have a 3-0 lead after the first half-inning. The Phils have a Triple-A lineup right now, and Howard is stinking up the joint. Fortunately, I don't see either Atlanta or Florida running away with this division.

Yup - no Utley, no Victorino, Ruiz still being slowly worked back into the lineup - that's 1/3 of the lineup right there. Kinda need some of them back before we can hit a little better. But even last year the bats never woke up - don't see any reason why they would now unless you get something new out of Brown (when he comes up) or Mayberry. But hey, it's the Year of the Pitcher, take 2, just keep riding those horses.Ivytalk wrote:The Phils have a Triple-A lineup right now, and Howard is stinking up the joint. Well, this series is exactly what many expected of the Phils this year. Pitchers lock it down and the O gets the HR to win it. If they ever pull together any semblance of a healthy and potent lineup they will be unstoppable.
It'll be interesting to see how Oswalt is progressing tomorrow. Getting the broom ready.

Yup - for as "bad" as it's been, the Phils are doing pretty well. Sure is hard having these kinds of problems.93henfan wrote:Well, this series is exactly what many expected of the Phils this year. Phils take the series from the Rangers - see if Oswalt can provide the broom today. In bigger news, mark it down, Monday Chase Utley returns!!!

Shit. Shut out again -- this time by the immortal Matt Harrison. SMFH, this batting slump is getting old.

Don't look now, but the Ms' rotation is giving the 'fearsome foursome' a run for their money.

Re: Phillies Parade
The power of Chase Utley! He makes his season debut, doesn't even have a hit, but every other player in the lineup does and the Phils lead 9-0 in the bottom of the 3rd.

14 hits, 10 runs, 3 HRs, 6 extra base hits.
Finally, everybody hits (except Uts)

Looking forward to some Vance Worley tomorrow. He's a bit of a weirdo, which I like!

Re: Phillies Parade
Fun 19 inning game just finished between the Phillies and Reds, Wilson Valdez (reserve 2nd baseman) picks up the win.

Re: Phillies Parade
In no way, shape or form is a 19 inning game ever fun unless it's a playoff elimination game, and even that is probably too much.Shellin wrote:Fun 19 inning game just finished between the Phillies and Reds, Wilson Valdez (reserve 2nd baseman) picks up the win.

Yep. I won't even watch an entire 9 innings straight unless the Mariners are playing or it's the World Series.bandl wrote:In no way, shape or form is a 19 inning game ever fun unless it's a playoff elimination game, and even that is probably too much.Shellin wrote:Fun 19 inning game just finished between the Phillies and Reds, Wilson Valdez (reserve 2nd baseman) picks up the win.

Heck, I turned it off and went to bed after the Phils tied it in the 10th. Already too tired and had work this morning.
I do remember being at that Phils/Padre doubleheader in '93 where the first game was delayed significantly by rain, and ended just after 1AM. And then, amazingly, the scoreboards showed that the second game was going to start at 1:25AM. We stayed until about the 4th inning or so of that game and left sometime around 2:30AM. Game ended memorably in the 10th inning with an RBI single by Mitch "Mitchypoo" Williams. Good times. Phils actually had a 20 inning game against the Dodgers a week or two after that - remember watching that game, the whole game, at home.

Eh, I always enjoy it when position players get to come in to pitch, which usually doesn't occur until the game has gone a ridiculously long time. Valdez was the first player to start a game in the field and record the win since Babe Ruth back in 1921.bandl wrote:In no way, shape or form is a 19 inning game ever fun unless it's a playoff elimination game, and even that is probably too much.
