Hen: Doesn't comprehend that the medical profession is governed by a millinea-old ethical code of conduct, still enchaptered within today's licensing process...for good reason. Also doesn't recognize a person's civil rights can be violated without an accompanying criminal act/breach of contract.

There are always exceptions to the rule, but the vast overwhelming majority of morbidly obese people are that way because they eat way too damn much and do not get enough (or any) exercise.

If you don't agree with the above statement, prove me wrong. :tothehand:

Lemme get this straight...

You believe that doctors should be required to treat people they do not want to treat because of their ethical code.

Do you also believe that doctors should be required to preform certain legal treatments on these same patients even though it goes against their personal beliefs? Maybe like an abortion :?:

Sorry, there is no way you can require one without requiring the other.

You're just kidding us, right?

Nobody can be this dense.

It's not about dietary poor habits...

...it's about the doctors refusing to accept patients over a specific weight...

...ABSENT AN INTAKE EXAMINATION TO RULE OUT A MEDICAL CAUSE FOR THEIR APPARENT WEIGHT ISSUE.

Even if D1B and Cap' dieted 24/7, I'd wager they could NEVER drop below 240 (just a guess), merely because they're freakishly large and have a high BMI. Should they be denied medial treatment too?

Baldy, somehow, you just don't get it. This isn't a judgement thread about American eating habits, it's about a small group of doctors who've forgotten the fundamental rule of medicine: Do no harm.

Yes. They swore an affirmation of either a hippocratic oath or physicians's oath to become licensed physicians.

No. This is a seperate issue about personal/religious beliefs. The doctors in question have made it known this is about economic benefit, not personal/religious belief.
Sorry, there is no way you can require one without requiring the other.
Yes, you can.
Again, Baldy, you're looking at this superficially. There motives are greed-driven and not protected either by their professional code of conduct or civil law.

And, if any self-made obese person cut their calorie intake drastically, ate actual nutritional food, and started doing cardio regularly, they'd lose weight.... and would easily be able to find someone to examine their vaginas or fit into an airplane seat.

Fine, take the fatties out of the equation. Being a doctor is a business. Just like any other business who has clients or customers, they have the fundamental right according to the 1st amendment to associate with whomever they wish.

If people have problems with their weight, there are things called Bariatric physicians who specialize in treating obesity. Along the same lines, if you need a heart transplant, you don't demand that an orthopedic surgeon preform the surgery.

:ohno:
Just jumping in here - there really is no millinea-old ethical code of conduct. The Hippocratic Oath has changed or been modified significantly over the ages. Didn't the original Oath ban doctors from performing euthanasia, abortions, and even surgical procedures (actually implying that surgeons weren't even covered by the Oath)? Heck, the original Oath even alluded to the fact that education in medicine should be free (I'm sure those in med school today would love to revive that one). Falling back on the idea that doctors are taking some time-honored Oath is ignoring the reality that whichever Oath they take today is pretty different from what they took 100 years ago or 1000 years ago and that it really doesn't bind them to be public servants. Maybe to some they should be public servants and an argument can be made for that, but the oaths they are taking or have taken have never been to that effect.

I saw the future last fall.
I went into see the best Knee Dr in town and the secretary gave me the 3rd degree about my finances and insurance before I was allowed to see him.

The best Dr's are already starting to go into private practice.

They will opt out with Obama telling them how much they can make and who they have to see.

The masses will be stuck seeing the guy/gal that finished at the bottom of their class or got their degree from a 3rd world country.

If you want the good service you better be in our new polit bureau or have cash

Broncster,

Did your proctologist ever retrieve that catcher's mask that Grizo shoved up your ass after the Weber State game?

That had to hurt.

When the question becomes do you think the doctors should see them vs do they have to. You do know there's a differnce, right? The fact that this happened to overweight people is making all the overweight people here turn into :dunce: .
