Should have been to the Griz Encounter. Not to put GG's cans to the back burner.......You got to meet THE ICON of Grizzly lore...GRIZO. And got a T-Shirt to remember the experience.

TwinTown is pissed that analjelly is fucking douchebag hypocrite.

Thread after thread, post after post defending the health care bill - bemoaning big insurance for their "preexisting condition" bullshit... and now this. The juxtaposition is either jarring or appalling, I'm not sure which.

Doctors treat patients - that's their job.

Physician's Oath

I solemnly pledge myself to consecrate my life to the service of humanity;
I will give to my teachers the respect and gratitude which is their due;
I will practice my profession with conscience and dignity; the health of my patient will be my first consideration;I will maintain by all the means in my power, the honour and the noble traditions of the medical profession; my colleagues will be my brothers;
I will not permit considerations of religion, nationality, race, party politics or social standing to intervene between my duty and my patient;
I will maintain the utmost respect for human life from the time of conception, even under threat, I will not use my medical knowledge contrary to the laws of humanity;
I make these promises solemnly, freely and upon my honour
I doubt you'll find a translation of the Hippocratic Oath which endorses protection of the physician's wealth over care of a perceivably high risk patient.

Shame on these fucks.

Still, as a privately practicing doctor they should have the right to choose who their patients are. What if they just didn't tell you why? Same as a lawyer has the right to choose who to represent or a grocery store has the right to refuse service to anyone. :coffee:

No. But, doctors should be able to turn away new people that choose unhealthy lifestyles and show a complete disregard for their health if they wish, however. Same reason a college turns away a student with horrible grades. Teachers teach. Doctors treat. But, noone wants to teach a kid that shows no effort to apply himself. No one wants to treat someone that lives on Whoppers and milkshakes.

Obesity... in the vast, vast majority of cases is a lifestyle choice. Inactive, high caloric diets. There are inherited genetic problems, gland problems, etc. These are a very small minority, though.

Obesity may be a medical problem.... but, so is psoriasis of the liver due to heavy drinking, so is lung cancer due to heavy smoking. Folks that CHOOSE to drink way, way more than any normal person should and make their liver worthless... is put at the BACK of the list of liver transplants. As they should be. Because the dumbass CHOSE to poison his body.

A 400-pound chick that lives on Big Macs and only gets up from her couch to reset her modem... chooses to live an unhealthy lifestyle. And, I'm not sympathetic towards her. I'm VERY sympathetic to any doctor that has to probe her atrophic vagina, though.
Oh my god, I find myself in total agreement with SK... :shock: :shock: :shock: Now I feel dirty...wait a minute, who hijacked SK's account?

This reflects the ignorance of your argument: If I don't accept them as a patient, I can't be guilty of ethical misconduct.

In the logic world of Analjelly, as a landlord, if I never rent to a minority, I can't be guilty of violating their civil rights as tenants.

:dunce:

This is a simple case of discrimination due to disability. The physicians who are refusing to treat the overweight women are doing so for economic reasons, not an inability or lack of expertise to treat. The same physicians have been treating overweight women since the dawn of time, but have now chosen to discriminately refuse to treat a specific classification of women solely based upon weight, absent an initial examination to determine suitability for treatment. How, pray tell, are these physician's determining the women's "obesity"? Height/Weight charts? Visual assessment? Or do they perform a body fat index examination FIRST, then notify those women not "passing" their subjective BFI requirements?

Their argument that treating overweight patients subjects them to higher insurance rates/litigation expenses, is a peachy position, until you consider the slope they're descending:

African Americans are subject to sickle cell anemia...which places them in a "higher risk category"
Men historically have a higher rate of heart disease...which places them in a "higher risk category"
Gays statistically have a higher rate of exposure to HIV...which places them in a "higher risk category"
Dwarfs are known to suffer higher rates of musculoskeletal ailments...which places them in a "higher risk category"
People from "lower" socioeconomic areas statistically have poorer diets...which places them in a "higher risk category"
People who live in "lower" socioeconomic areas statistically have completed less education...which places them in a "higher risk category"

So, following the Analjelly doctrine of "economic preservation by discrimination", doctors should REALLY only treat skinny, wealthy, college degreed, middle-aged, non-smoking, non-drinking, heterosexual, white females who exercise regularly and eat a low-fat, natural food diet.

:thumb:

While I understand you feel physicians have a lawful right to discriminate for economic benefit, there's a reason why the government licenses and regulates the medical profession: To prevent medical professionals from acting like used car salesmen...

If instead of typing out that long ass rant... you went outside and took a walk around your neighbood... or maybe even jogged a lap around your neighborhood... maybe you'd actually be able to find a doctor willing to examine your fatass vagina.

Not too many years ago, homosexuality was seen as the result of moral weakness; something that could be "cured" through ridicule and discrimination.

Scientists find "master switch" gene for obesity

Mon May 16, 2011 1:46am EDT

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/05/ ... I920110516
(Reuters) - Scientists have found that a gene linked to diabetes and cholesterol is a "master switch" that controls other genes found in fat in the body, and say it should help in the search for treatments for obesity-related diseases.

In a study published in the journal Nature Genetics, the British researchers said that since fat plays an important role in peoples' susceptibility to metabolic diseases like obesity, heart disease and diabetes, the regulating gene could be target for drugs to treat such illnesses.

"This is the first major study that shows how small changes in one master regulator gene can cause a cascade of other metabolic effects in other genes," said Tim Spector of King's College London, who led the study.

More than half a billion people, or one in 10 adults worldwide, are obese and the numbers have doubled since the 1980s as the obesity epidemic has spilled over from wealthy into poorer nations.

In the United States, obesity-related diseases already account for nearly
10 percent of medical spending -- an estimated $147 billion a year.

Type 2 diabetes, which is often linked to poor diet and lack of exercise, is also reaching epidemic levels worldwide as rates of obesity rise.

Scientists have already identified a gene called KLF14 as being linked to type 2 diabetes and cholesterol levels, but until now they did know what role it played.

Spector's team analyzed more than 20,000 genes in fat samples taken from under the skin of 800 British female twin volunteers. They found a link between the KLF14 gene and the levels of many other distant genes found in fat tissue, showing that KLF14 acts as a master switch to control these genes.

They then confirmed their findings in 600 fat samples from a separate group of people from Iceland.

In a report of their study, the researchers explained that other genes found to be controlled by KLF14 are linked to a range of metabolic traits, including body mass index, obesity, cholesterol, insulin and glucose levels.

"KLF14 seems to act as a master switch controlling processes that connect changes in the behavior of subcutaneous fat to disturbances in muscle and liver that contribute to diabetes and other conditions," said Mark McCarthy from Britain's Oxford University, who also worked on the study.
Is overeating and poor diet a problem? Hell yes!

It's a global problem.

Is it a cause for shit-for-brains, greed-driven, faux professionals to utilize as an excuse to fatten their wallets to the detriment of the healths of a significant segment of the population? Hell no!

Kiss my ass, Jellydonut.

I can outlift your ass, any day.

I can outwork any kid around me, any day.

When I was your age, I routinely rode 300+ miles every week, and competed in century and double-centuries as a competitor.

And I haven't been to a doctor in 10 years.

When you get to be my age, you can only WISH you'll still be in my shape. :nod:

Here's the secret:

Get up every day and go to work. Do something that contributes to society.

You might want to try it, Jelly.

So should these doctors refuse to treat UNDERWEIGHT women as well? That is probably a higher risk group than overweight women in pregnancy.

Doctors should be able to refuse to treat anyone they want. :nod:

It's no different than doctors refusing to accept certain types of insurance, medicare, medicaid, etc. They spent the 8 years in school, 3 or 4 years in residency, and/or 2+ years learning a specialty.
