Call me when a serious candidate actually signs up. Huckabee never was one anyway.

This is my point. Serious candidates aren't signing up for 2012 because they know how difficult it will be.CID1990 wrote:Call me when a serious candidate actually signs up.

He finished with the 2nd most delegates in the 2008 Republican primary and won 8 states. Seems like a pretty serious candidate as far as Republicans go...

ALL presidential bids are uphill battles no matter who you are. Nobody is bowing out of this one because they think Obama is somehow invincible. Given the fact that every new week is another amateur hour on the Hill, even the goofiest candidates think they can win. That's why idiots like Trump are making noise.

It's still early and the wack jobs always come out first, so it remains to be seen who is putting their stupid on display, but that is exactly how Clinton got elected to his first term. None of the heavy hitters like Sam Nunn wanted to take on HW less than a year after the Gulf War.CID1990 wrote:You just start threads like this so you can put your stupid on display, don't you? When the smoke clears I think we are going to see either Pawlenty or Daniels as the GOP nominee. Pawlenty is a little bit goofy for my tastes, but I could certainly get behind Daniels.houndawg wrote:It's still early and the wack jobs always come out first, so it remains to be seen who is putting their stupid on display, but that is exactly how Clinton got elected to his first term. That being said, I could also get behind Hillary Clinton if she ran for the GOP nomination. That's what having a true amateur in the White House will do. Starts to make even a hawk Dem look good.
Simply saying Huck is "smart" for deciding not to pursue the nomination is not a display of stupidity as I said it was. I misspoke. It is actually pure ignorance on display, because it was simply rooted in the naive idea that Obama is somehow unassailable.

Define "serious." And while you're at it, tell us just who gets to define it. You? If so, that's a crock if I ever heard one.CID1990 wrote:Call me when a serious candidate actually signs up. Huckabee never was one anyway.

He isn't running.
That's prima facie evidence of a non-serious candidate.

Huckabee would never have a chance to win, regardless of the election. He'd get some decent traction, especially with the socially conservative vote, but you don't win national elections with just the socially conservative vote. If you're someone like Daniels or Pawlenty, Huckabee not entering the race is a good thing - better chance for them to be able to win the Republican primaries without having to tack too far to the right in certain states.

He'd be a great candidate, at least resume-wise. I haven't heard him speak live so I'm not sure how he comes across. But I'm not sure the GOP has a better candidate than him. I think Obama's got a real, real strong chance to win (incumbents don't lose a lot for a reason) but obviously the race should be pretty close as most are these days.Ivytalk wrote:On GMA, a reporter said that Daniels will announce his candidacy very soon!

President Obama still has to get through the primary. That's not exactly a given. Twenty-twelve is too far off to get a bounce from the Mr. Osama thing. He's going to be reduced to defending his woeful record (including lies) on the economy.

Unless Clinton runs against him, he is a given to get through the Democratic primary. And I don't see any reason why she would consider jumping into the fray at this point. If things really go south at some point that could change, but right now it looks like smooth sailing for Obama into the general election.SuperHornet wrote:President Obama still has to get through the primary. My USUAL myopic prediction is Sac State to win it all with a perfect record. That's probably not going to happen this year (at least not the perfect part), but I think we have a pretty good shot at it.
IF we find a way past the Griz for the first time ever. And for the time being, that's a pretty big IF.

Late to this thread... sorry I missed a Hall-of-Famer from SH...
The primary? Seriously SH? Wow. Just... wow. The most recent "challenge" to an incumbent POTUS would be Buchanan, 20 years ago to HW Bush... and even that wasn't too serious. Not happening.
Also - Huckster was not a serious candidate. A serious candidate is someone with the resume and credentials to present a serious or even potentially serious challenge to the incumbent. That means they need either a political base, a huge financial base, or a huge platform from which to launch themselves. Huck had exactly NONE of those things.
Serious contenders:
Daniels
Pawlenty
Romney
Palin
Fringe Contenders:
Huckabee (not anymore)
Huntsman
Bachmann
Santorum
Paul
Everyone else is a complete pretender.
(note, I may have forgotten one or two)

I agree about Daniels being their best shot against Obama. However I don't see him winning the primary unless there's literally no other non-fringe candidates by then.

Well, Huckabee's show on FNC was at 9 PM on Sat, and I assume he made the announcement shortly thereafter. KY posts it at 9:16, so looks like on a Saturday night he had nothing better to do than to be watching FNC and logged into CS waiting in anticipation for Huckabee's announcement to be the 1st to post it on hereCID1990 wrote:You just start threads like this so you can put your stupid on display, don't you?
