Re: TSN: FCS Top 10 LBs
Jordon Tripp MLB Montana - He should have been on top ten list, had a better season than AJ Storms last year.
I think that Sacromento State had a really good LB playing. I know I loved their safety Schrader? - he hit people like a Mack Truck.

How do you gauge a better season?bpcats wrote:Jordon Tripp MLB Montana - He should have been on top ten list, had a better season than AJ Storms last year.

Storms had 146 tackles with 10 for loss. Tripp had 99 with 9 TFL. Each had 3 pass break ups. But Tripp was better in other categories like sacks and fumble recoveries. If you're going on tackles alone then Storms, but Tripp had a broader range of stats.

Paul worrilow from Delaware will be on that list after this season. I would bet on it. Anyone who watched last seasons playoffs would have to agree I think.

as a group, NDSU's all 3 would be my choice.
Preston Evans, Brandon Jemison & Chad Wilson/Grant Olson.

Jake Trantin overlooked here because he was unable to play last year. There's not a MLB anywhere I'd take over him.

I thought Evans from UNH was the best LB I saw last year. The Furman kid is good but I'd take Josh Rowe over both him and the App kid.

Yeah, not sure how Tanyi is on the list.
He was a beast of a defensive end and sat out last season with an injury. He's moving from defensive end to linebacker in our new 3-4. I think he'll be damn good in the new system... pretty much ideal for a 3-4 linebacker. But, I'm not sure how you could include him in the top 10 FCS linebackers at this point.

Re: TSN: FCS Top 10 LBs
AJ Storms has racked up a lot of tackles the last couple years, but I wonder if that's because he's really good or just because ISU's D-Line was so terrible that the linebackers & secondary had to make every play. It seems a little odd to put a LB on a top-10 list coming from a team with an bad run defense (horrible in 2009) in a passing conference.CatBlitz22 wrote:How do you gauge a better season?bpcats wrote:Jordon Tripp MLB Montana - He should have been on top ten list, had a better season than AJ Storms last year.

Storms did have 145 tackles last year, but virtually nothing else. He had 0 Sacks, FFs, FRs, and INTs. He seems like a reliable tackler, but not at all a playmaker.
As for the Griz: I don't know if any of their individual LBs should make this list, but it looks like they've got one of the best linebacking corps in FCS.

He is listed on the names on the cusp part. Those are the guys who didn't make the top 10. Probably listed him because Tanyi would have been in the top 10 DEs had he stayed and I'm sure Craig wanted to make sure he got honored.Skjellyfetti wrote:Yeah, not sure how Tanyi is on the list.

Re: TSN: FCS Top 10 LBs
Evans and Holmes were the two best I saw. I thought Rowe was solid. I wouldn't put him or Tanyi in the top 10 though. I think Anderson is really good too. Don't sleep on the NW State LB. He won't get a lot of press cause his team was bad but he is pretty good. I know he isn't big but he can flat out play. I'll probably rank him as a 2nd team All-American in the preseason on my list.blueballs wrote:I thought Evans from UNH was the best LB I saw last year. What is up with the Appy bias over there. This isn't 2007. A guy that didn't play last year, who wasn't good when he played, made the list? Rowe and Eubanks from GSU should be on there way before that guy. Think they are forgetting how Appy has choked early in the playoffs of late.

Dude was a beast when he played. Especially the second half of the 2009 season.eagleskins wrote:What is up with the Appy bias over there. This isn't 2007. If they took the list to 25 players, VMI's AJ Gross would definitely be there somewhere between 15-25.

One to watch this season is juco xfer Brian Presume from Coffeyville, KS, CC. Looked very good in spring ball.

Good to see Zach Johnson on the watch list. With Sherritt gone, his numbers should be terrific. It's too bad he missed a season due to injury.
Re: TSN: FCS Top 10 LBs
Agree on Tripp; team leader of the D already after his sophmore season. He's an OLB; has added some good weight and is set to have a killer season. Look for him to get the Griz #37 this fall.bpcats wrote:Jordon Tripp MLB Montana - He should have been on top ten list, had a better season than AJ Storms last year.

Stephon Robertson from JMU, 3rd Team All CAA at LB & CAA Defensive Rookie of the Year last season as a rFr, I think will be an AA and a Buchanon candidate if not next season, by 2012 if he stays healthy.

I don't see why he won't be granted a medical redshirt/extra year or whatever because of it... he never played a down that year because of the clot.kalm wrote:Good to see Zach Johnson on the watch list. That's what I thought but I noticed he's listed as a senior in this article and on the roster at goeags. Can you receive a medical/hardship redshirt if you've already redshirted once before? I'll ask someone who's in the know tonight and report back.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:I don't see why he won't be granted a medical redshirt/extra year or whatever because of it... he never played a down that year because of the clot.kalm wrote:Good to see Zach Johnson on the watch list. Re: TSN: FCS Top 10 LBs
Every LB on that list plays for a subpar team with the exception of UMass, UNH & Furman. I guess it's easier to make 12 tackles a game when your on the field for 43 minutes.
Re: TSN: FCS Top 10 LBs
Cal Poly's Kenny Jackson (6'0" 225) Jr LB will be starting for his 3rd year in 2011. In 2009 he recorded 58 tackles as a freshman OLB. In 2010 he recorded 67 tackles including 10 TFL. He is moving to MLB in 2011 were I expect he will crack the century mark.

Re: TSN: FCS Top 10 LBs
perhaps they haven't appealed to the NCAA for a medical redshirt, thus he is still listed as a Senior? Might have just been a case of him wanting to stay in the same class as his brother? Or perhaps you cannot get a med RS if you've already had a normal one. Dunnokalm wrote:That's what I thought but I noticed he's listed as a senior in this article and on the roster at goeags.
