Well, the Native Americans Are Pissed

Well, apparently we've managed to piss off the Native Americans by using "Geronimo", a revered Apache leader who was hunted down by America at the end of the 1800's (for those who didn't know), as the code word for Osama bin Laden. No word yet on whether the NCAA plans on taking action versus the Obama administration for such insensitivity.

A Frenchman, American, Mexican and Briton were on a plane over the Atlantic when the pilot announced they were low on fuel and everything had to be jettisoned. After throwing everything off, the pilot said they were still too heavy and were going down and they were all going to die.

Suddenly, the Briton gets up and tells everyone, “We British are the bravest of all people. We held on during World War II while everyone else was beaten or sitting out the fight. I’ll save you chaps!” He yelled, “God Save the Queen!”, and jumped out the door.

Everyone was stunned but impressed with the Briton’s bravery.

The pilot came back on and said, “Sorry, but we’re still too heavy and everyone’s going to die.”

The Frenchman got up and said, “We French are truly magnificent people who have given so much to the world. The world, especially the Americas, owes so much to us and our culture as we helped break the back of tyranny and helped ring in the ideas of freedom.” He yelled, “Viva la France!” and jump out the door.

The American and Mexican were again stunned but thankful for the Frenchman’s bravery.

The pilot though, came back on with the bad news that the plane was still too heavy and that they were all going to die.

The American stood up and said, “Nobody has helped the world more than Americans. We’ve saved the world from evil many times over and we are the most generous people on Earth. If anyone can solve problems and save the day it is an American. With that, he said, “Remember the Alamo!” and threw the Mexican out the door.

I hadn't given 'Geronimo' a second thought after hearing it was the code word for the mission.

Now whenever I hear 'Geronimo' I'll always think "Indians are a pissy bunch".

Just to correct GF's thread title. Only some, as the WSJ article states, American Indian tribes, are pissed. Native Americans, that is all of us who were born in the United States, aren't pissed.

Just to correct GF's thread title. Only some, as the WSJ article states, American Indian tribes, are pissed. Native Americans, that is all of us who were born in the United States, aren't pissed.

I'm not sure how the census breaks it down - silly me, I've been circling Caucasion all these years - should've been putting down Native American.

But hey, now I am a little pissed about the Geronimo name. Not very, but a little. Call it a tinkle.

Caucasian is absolutely the worst race identifier of the bunch. Makes no sense. But, there aren't any good ones either... it's not easy to pick a word to apply to a whole, huge group of people.

Census uses "American Indian" I believe. If it had used "Native American" I would have checked that, as I have done on a couple of forms before that used Native American.
