Find it humorous that the Donks, most of whom have never owned or managed in business and had to deal with govt. regulation at a life-changing level, apparently hold the wisdom to judge a fictional account of a govt/consumer driven economy gone awry.
:dunce:

When "Hollywood" refuses to fund the screen adaptation of one of our country's most notable literary works, there's ALWAYS a political agenda. Flip Atlas Shrugged's message, and it would have gone to screen every decade since publication.

That's a fact, Jack.

True. Hollywood sells escapism to the lazy and unproductive.
"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

Have you seen it yet?

Being a trilogy, the biggest complaint I read was the "unfinished" ending of Part 1.

Seems to be a number of critics bitching about castings that don't match their "vision" of the main characters.

Fuck 'em.

Haven't paid to see a movie in a theater in over 10 years...

Can't see how I'd hate it.

I'd guess you would lump me in with the conks, and I've owned and managed businesses, continue to deal with "life changing" govt. regulations to this day, and will one up ya in that I also directly compete with govt. entities for customers. I liked Atlas Shrugged as a fictional tale and related strongly to the main character's battle against the good ol' boys network establishment.

That being said, to apply the teachings of Ayn Rand to modern political principles relagates you to the status of tin foil hat/religious fundamentalist. The only sad part about that notion is that we've pretty much been following her priniciples for the last 30 years and one of her foremost disciples was Fed Sec, and another currently sits on the editorial board of the WSJ. Objectivism is a big, fat fail. :coffee:

Saw the movie tonight, in a surprisingly crowded theater in Peoria, AZ. Surprising because there has been absolutely no advertising for this movie. If you want to see it, you have to search for it, so I kind of expected my wife and I to be alone, which was certainly not the case.

I enjoyed it. Not as polished as most movies, but still very good. The actress playing Dagny Taggert was excellent.

Lately, there have been duelling stories in the entertainment press about the future of ”Atlas Shrugged.” With disappointing box office returns, the producers have been asked if they will go ahead and complete the franchise and in one interview we’re being told there will be no trilogy and in another we’re being told that there will. To clear the air, I reached out via email and “Atlas” producers John Aglialoro and Harmon Kaslow were both good enough to respond with exclusive quotes that should help to calm fears of “Atlas” fans everywhere.

Most surprising, though, was the revelation that CNN, CNBC, and MSNBC are refusing to broadcast 15-second “Atlas” spots. What’s that about?

“I’m going to get a picture of Roger Ebert and Peter Travers and the rest of them so I can wake up in the morning and be reminded what we’re up against,” Aglialoro wrote in an email. “They’re revitalizing me with their outrageousness.” Aglialoro then went on to state that he had been “misunderstood” when he said that the critical drubbing the film took “influenced him to abandon the second and third films in the Atlas Shrugged franchise.” He confirmed that he has ”no intention to go on strike.”

That should come as very good news to the many, many people who obviously enjoyed the film and found it to be something special. Personally, I’ve never seen such polarized reviews before. The critics savaged it and yet everyone who sent a revew into us loved it. The most interesting thing I’ve noticed is that no one was on-the-fence about the film. No one said, “Yeah, it was okay.” People either passionately embraced Part 1 or passionately didn’t. You don’t see a lot of movies like that. So, for those of you who loved it…

“Make no mistake, we want to make Part 2 and Part 3 and we’re committed to finding a way to make it work,” Aglialoro wrote. “There’s a temptation to make the movies expecting to lose money, to say to heck with the critics and invest another $10 million and hope to make some of it back. But to do so would betray Ayn Rand’s principles. This has to be a profitable venture. The challenge is in finding a way to overcome the critics and the rest of the establishment, who are united against us. The most frustrating thing is knowing that there are people who are missing out on an opportunity to enjoy the experience of Atlas Shrugged on the big screen either because of what critics have said or because they just don’t know it’s in theaters because they haven’t heard about it.”...

...The most interesting development, however, is that in their effort to expand television advertising, MSNBC, CNN and CNBC “have all rejected a 15-second ad for ‘editorial’ reasons [with] no further explanation provided.”

“This unforeseen censorship effectively puts the brakes on our follow-up marketing efforts where we were trying to reach millions of people unaware of the movie being in theaters now,” Kaslow wrote. “We are continuing with the theatrical release because we have great word of mouth and awareness for the movie increases daily.”

That or it was a low budget, made for TV produced type movie from an inexperienced director who had to rush things before he lost the rights...and it was boring. :coffee: :

In case you don't know, for conservatives, free marketeers, predatory capitalists, and people who hate the government and the poor, Atlas Shrugged is like what would happen if the Da Vinci Code fucked the Twilight books and had a baby, and Republicans decided that baby should be the basis for running history's most powerful country

Atlas Shrugged is the founding text that brings us the revolutionary, inspiring ideas that helping people is dumb, poor people are goblin leeches, corporations are always right, and fabulously wealthy CEOs are the smartest, hardest working, most awesome people in the world -- and the government just won't give them a fair shake...

If all this sounds really boring, that's because it is. Really. Boring. The only thing that kept me engaged was trying to figure out what the fuck was going on. It felt a lot like I had walked into the middle of negotiations between some companies I'd never heard of regarding business I didn't understand or care about involving people who were assholes. If you thought that Star Wars Episode 1: the Phantom Menace should've had more scenes about the Trade Federation, Atlas Shrugged is the movie for you.

Director Paul Johansson -- who you may remember as Dan Scott from One Tree Hill and the director of no feature films -- gives Atlas Shrugged the look and feel of a well-budgeted TV show, where the main priority is simply getting it done before the deadline. Not coincidentally, that fits with the fact that Atlas Shrugged was rushed into production on an estimated $15 million budget before producer John Agliaro lost the rights to the book. There's little creativity when it comes to shot selection, composition or editing (if a character is talking, the camera is on them), which is consistent with a TV approach where you simply set up your close, medium and wide shots since there isn't time or money to do anything more complicated or interesting.

The film ends with Dagny, in her most emotional moment, shrieking and crying as she watches an oil field burn. If that doesn't say everything about today's Republicans, I don't know what does
.

Why on earth would they want to advertise on MSNBC and CNN?

Who are they trying to reach, the 3 liberals who watch Eliot Spitzer or the 5 liberals who watch Rachel Maddow?

Your quote from Huffingtonpost was a liberal opinion mocking/belittling the movie.

My citing the Breitbart article was to note two issues:

1) Professional MSM reviewers seem to be the only viewers posting negative criticism of the movie, as the vast majority of "reviews" posted from members of the public who've seen it are complimentary or, at the least, objective and favorable. (See my previous post re: viewers comments).

2) CNN, MSNBC and the other notoriously politically biased networks are applying defacto political censorship by refusing to air ads for the movie.

The first issue can be verified by going to IMDB (80% favorable reviews), Yahoo members reviews (A-), hell, even Ideologue Ebert's readers gave it 3 stars...though he gave it 1 star. :dunce: Bottomline, there was a clear "conspiracy" by the entertainment industry to NOT support funding/production/distribution/marketing of this movie due to it's topic. Think not? Go read some of the reviews by the Rand haters so see how kookie they become when discussing her writings (...or simply look in a mirror.).

The second is a direct quote from the producers, so unless you're asserting they were lying, what is your objection to citing the Breitbart article?

Does expandspanos know about this giant conspiracy? Those evil commie bastards who control the huge multinational corporations that control the msm better not get away with this obvious attempt to shut down capitalism.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair or fucking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. Al Swearengen
