Official 2011 Lacrosse Thread
Re: Official 2011 Lacrosse Thread
So I was reading CAAsports and saw that Towson lost to Drexel today. So if I have this correct, Towson now has a combined CAA record of 0-31 in their three major sports (Football, Basketball, Lacrosse), with one last chance to get a CAA win in lacrosse? 2010-2011 has gotta be the worst year ever for Towson athletics.
Re: Official 2011 Lacrosse Thread
Hens had a chance to clinch home field throughout the CAA playoffs but got f'ing smoked by Penn State.

Re: Official 2011 Lacrosse Thread
TXST started off well but with a ton of injuries and a very young team (19 freshman, 8 sophs on a team of 35) they did not make the cut. They finished 4-1 in conference behind UT but lost their tournament qtrfinal match to A&M, whom they had beaten handily a few weeks earlier.
After that game the coach, Chris Park, (5 years) announced he was stepping down. He sighted wanting more time with his family. The day before this game his wife gave birth to their 2nd son...they also have a 2 year old. He is also an Assistant AD, so that takes up a lot of his time.
I had an ambivalent reaction but I understand. Don't know what will happen to the LAX program now. Park was an excellent recruiter and guys came to TXST to play for him

Re: Official 2011 Lacrosse Thread
As suspected, the cream has risen to the top in the CAA:
Lacrosse (M)
Standings as of 04/30/11
Team CAA Overall
Hofstra 4-1 12-1
Penn State 4-1 7-5
Massachusetts 4-2 9-4
Delaware 4-2 9-6
Drexel 3-3 7-6
Towson 0-5 2-10
Saint Joseph's 0-5 0-11
#4 UD will travel to the winner of today's PSU-Hofstra game.
#3 UMass will travel to the loser.
Hofstra, IMHO, is the class of the conference, with PSU and UMass the next tier. Hofstra and UMass I expected, but PSU sort of came out of nowhere. That being said, UD did upset Hofstra earlier this year and I think we're still capable of beating any one of the others if the planets line up, despite the complete shellackings from PSU and UMass the last two weeks.

StonyBrook takes on Vermont this afternoon. A win for SBU clinches the America East regular season title and better yet would give us 12 straight AE wins . Our last AE loss was to UMBC in May 2009.

RICHMOND, Va. (April 30, 2011) -- The field is set for the 2011 CAA Men’s Lacrosse Championships. A 9-4 win for Hofstra over Penn State in Saturday’s regular-season finale for both teams finalized the pairings for a set of two semifinal games Wednesday, May 4.
The tournament opens with a pair of semifinals Wednesday as top-seeded and eighth-ranked Hofstra (13-1, 5-1 in CAA) hosts the fourth seed Delaware (9-6, 4-2 in CAA) at 7 p.m., while second-seeded and 20th-ranked Penn State (7-6, 4-2 in CAA) entertains third-seeded No. 19 Massachusetts (9-4, 4-2 in CAA) at 7 p.m. The winners will meet Saturday, May 7, in the CAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship game at the site of the highest remaining seed. Opening faceoff time of the Championship game will be determined following the semifinal contests.
Hofstra, which returns to the CAA Championships field after missing the league’s postseason affair in 2010, earned the top-seed thanks to its victory over Penn State Saturday and a 5-1 league mark. Penn State, which finished last season with a 1-4 mark, is making its first CAA postseason appearance in just its second year of play in the CAA. The Nittany Lions ended the year with a 4-2 league mark and held tiebreaking wins over both Massachusetts and Delaware. The Minutemen are making their second-straight championships appearance in just their second season in the league. UMass lost a one-goal game at home to Penn State earlier this season. Delaware, which was the only squad to beat Hofstra in league play this season, has been a part of the championships field now seven times since 2004.

Yea, the way UD has closed out the season - I'm not optimistic at all playing on the Island.

Hands down the worst ever. Last time we were 1-10 in football, we were in the NCAA bball tourney and in the Lacrosse Championship game.∞∞∞ wrote:So I was reading CAAsports and saw that Towson lost to Drexel today. Got the win over St. Joes. Though St. Joes is probabley the worst lax team in the entire country.
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

Big win for the Hens last night who just must matchup well with Hofstra as they gave them their only 2 losses this year. Good luck against the Minutemen on Saturday - GO HENS!!!93henfan wrote:WOOT!

University of Delaware: 2011 CAA Men's Lacrosse Champions
I really didn't see them beating Hofstra and UMass. A very gutsy finish to the year for the Hens. Gotta give coach Bob Shillinglaw a ton of credit on this one.

Re: Official 2011 Lacrosse Thread
Word on the street Tony Seaman has either resigned or was fired. I am hoping this was his own choice, he has done a ton of work for Towson.
I've met him a handful of times and he couldn't be any nicer. But over the last 5-6 years the programs has gone rapidly down hill. We've gone from a high second tier team to not even being able to compete in our own conference.
If true, I hope we bring in a young exciting coach, Seamans slow it down methodical offense was painful to watch.

Re: Official 2011 Lacrosse Thread
Hens just dug too many holes for themselves today. I recall them being down 3-0, 7-1, 9-3, and 15-10, before they stormed back only to fall short 15-14. Damn, one goal loss to Duke this year after a one goal loss to NC last year. Fucking ACC. Oh well, at least we smoked Virginia four years ago.
