True, but they weren't gonna be able to make everyone happy. Only two teams were going to get the Griz. EWU-UM makes geographical sense as well (closer than Pocatello), and it's become a rivalry in the sense that it's always a competitive game that both schools look forward to every year. UND really threw a wrench into all this.
I, for one and maybe the only one, enjoy watching Kramer's teams play. They always bring a lot of energy to the table.

I doubt Kramer was hired at ISU yet, let alone mentioned in the discussion when the "rivals" were being decided upon. :coffee:

I don't care. I am right. ISU got fucked, and so did I.

If the number of wins is the only thing that matters EWU might still be playing their rivals in the old Evergreen Conference. Obviously, that's not the case. Consider this... in terms of distance, ISU's 4 closest rivals are Weber, MSU, Montana and SUU. This same order probably holds for fan interest and money at the gate as well. Of those four rivals, ISU will play 3 of them the minimum number of games. Thus, ISU's schedules could hardly be worse from a fan interest and monetary perspective. The expected decrease in schedule strength will hardly make up for these shortcomings.

It is a huge relief to see a schedule this complete. Scheduling at Cal Poly has been pretty rough for the past several years.

I have one gripe.....we kind of lost our late season rivalry game with Davis. I guess Sac St v Davis is seen as the more important rivalry. I am clearly biased but not having a late season game with Davis sucks. I think most Davis guys love to hate Sac more but I think the Battle for the Golden Horseshoe is more compelling.

I agree with this, but honestly how else would you redo this to keep Montana and Montana State (or at least one of them) on ISU every year and keep Montana, Montana State, EWU together at all?

I really think they started with those three and keeping "the marquee names" together and filled in from there from biggest names to smallest names.
You couldn't. I'm just saying that I can certainly understand why ISU wouldn't be ecstatic right now.

Things I like:

With chance to schedule 5 other Big Sky schools as OOC opponents, there should be no reason why a team would play a school Colorado School of Mines( I believe this year they may have late round draft picks (bench press wizard DT and I think a TE) or some other lower division team. Will have every chance to schedule extra games to make playoffs.

The Big Sky should become #1 conference at FCS level...CAA teams are jumping ship left and right and we may have caught them anyways.

Things I don't like>>
MSU has three west coast trips in 2014 with two of them back to back..That is going to be rough..
Won't be playing all the Big Sky schools and settling conference title on the field....plus side message boards will be fun

The being able to schedule conference teams as OOC games will be nice for teams out west like that, and bpcats is right. There should almost never be a reason to schedule a lower division team - unless your Montana that refused to give up a possible home date.

Actually only 4 other BSC schools. You can only play yourself in the spring. :thumb:

I'm sure a group will make be put together to make the first one and then who know? Hell I couldn't make the EWU game last year and I almost always make it to Spokane for that weekend. The last two years have been short on road games and I used to go to almost all of them except NAU.

No major complaints here. Does kinda seem like ISU got the shaft out of this one. Seems like PSU would have been better matched with one of the N. Cali schools, and ISU with MSU.

It does seem as if UCD and CPSLO may have had some leverage with scheduling when they joined (along with Sac). Wouldn't be surprised at all if they were guaranteed that they play the other Cali schools every year at the time they accepted the invite(s).

Agreed, but that seems like it would be almost impossible to schedule it like that for all 13 teams. I think, I could be wrong, you would need an even number of teams and rivals for each for that to work....maybe not though
It could have been done. There are two rings--the three team CA ring and the 10-team larger ring.

The three team CA ring has no problem doing it: UCD @ CP; CP@SAC; SAC@UCD (in 2012)

The ten ring team could have been: PSU@EWU; EWU@MONT; MONT@MSU; MSU@UND; UND@UNC; UNC@NAU; NAU@SUU; SUU@WSU; WSU@ISU; and ISU@PSU (in 2012) but they didn't do it that way.

It seems to me you set up 2 rivals for each precisely to allow you to play a rival at home and a rival on the road and then build the schedule after that.

Hypotheticals are a lot of fun. They make you consider the improbable, if not the absurd. Somtimes they are so absurd they make you laugh.

2013 and 2014 are optional 12-game seasons.

Also, Cal and Colorado will play a non-conference game this season despite both being in the Pac-12 because they schedules it a couple of years ago.
