I definitely love the idea in that first link that talked about schools being able to have scrimmages with other schools during the spring since every other sport does it such as Field Hockey. ODU just had a 3-4 team tournament held at ODU's Powhatan Sports Complex and both Soccer teams have held tournaments over the previous 1-2 months as well.

This is a sport where you could definitely modify it a little bit to prevent injuries.
