Who cares. Is anyone here actually going to stop driving, besides you cleets? Really. I filled up for the second time this week and could care less. It is gas. I need it. I like to be able to drive places and not have to use public transportation.

I might, MIGHT, curtail what I do if gas hits 6 bucks a gallon. Maybe.

And it was probably $6-7 a gallon in Europe. Somehow they've survived.

Honestly
The best thing that could EVER happen in this country regarding fuel costs is gas quadrupling in price
if gas at the pump was over ten dollars a gallon sh!t would change FAST

-Things that plow through fuel - like boats would truly be a luxury
- low paying jobs would need to schedule workers hours around the BUS SCHEDULE and not some bullsh!t in a world where everybody has 2 cars
- Bike lanes would actually have bikes in them
- Mopeds and small efficient travel devices would become essential - not four door Sedans and mini-vans
- Bus systems would be packed and trains too (as they should be)
- Airline and flying would be outrageous - as it should be

 I can't wait... that sounds like my kind of place

No worries. Cleets consumes more Jet A in a year than we do in gasoline combined. :coffee:

here's what boggles my mind... americans **** their pants over rising gas prices - and yet, even at .33/gallon increase what does it really amount to? $3.30/week for someone who burns 10 gallons a week...

whoop-dee do.
American who puts about your avg 15k miles on car a year= about 300 miles a week. If have a typical car/crossover/small SUV that gets around 25 mpg= around 12 gallons per week.

2 car family that would = about 24 gallons per week x $3.80 per gallon (avg is around that now) = about $90+ per week, about $400 per month (4.3 weeks). Not chump change for the avg American middle class family.

depends on what you mean by 'regular levels'

we're not talking about oil embargo levels - nor are we talking about post katrina/rita "refining capacity down by 50%"* levels either

arbitrary number grabbed from thin air to signify "significant"
We are talking about Obama's de facto bans in the gulf and Alaskan waters though:

Agreed that we should keep our hands of the reserves. I seem to remember the Goracle and Clinton and something about Navy Crude? Bad idea back then, bad idea now.

But.. you are oversimplifying the problem. The pocketbook is not just affected by our own personal gasoline use. We see the rise in gas prices reflected in just about everything we spend money on, even the most basic necessities such as the food we buy at the grocery store, the cheap plastic sh!t we buy at Target and WalMart. Even a granola Bohemian like Chizzang feels the crunch. Even people who do not own cars feel it. That extra .30 per gallon adds up exponentially.

$3.62/gallon this AM - last week when I filled up it was $3.39. :ohno:

I heard the president of Shell Oil on CNN trying to tapdance around what was happening - said that there are ample supplies, but blamed it on speculation and some myriad of anticipated risks and factors that were determining prices.

Couldn't even fill the tank in my truck last night. Apparently, my credit card will only allow me to pump $75 at a time. :|

No. That is usually the number, unless you are at a truck stop or something similar, that the gas station has for a limit. Just swipe it again and finish filling up. I think they use it as a safe-guard like if no one was around and paying attention and the nozzle just was dumping gas all over the ground it would only pump so much before turning off automatically.

If one actually drives, and the 25 miles a month you put on your car to get more distilled water and starch don't count, and has to put more than 20 gallons in at a time they pick up on these type of things.

No, it is tied the the bank behind the debit or credit card. The gas station has nothing to do with it...
