You have no grasp of this stuff at all. Communism is an economic system, not a moral system. Atheism/"humanism" is a moral system. Communists perceived atheism as essential to the creation of the communist state.

The Communists leaders embraced atheism/humanism because of its precept that the common good was more important than the rights of the individual. By embracing this moral system, it allowed them to eradicate political opposition (which included those who embraced enlightenment moral systems and the religious) -- because the collective good (the state) was more important than any individual.

The people who "starved" in Stalin's Russia were his political foes ... sent to harsh labor camps, and then deprived of food on the pretext that there were famines. Stalin killed because of his moral system, not because of his economics.
