To be completely clear here espan, I think this is legitimately interesting information on the cars and that Oil companies have bought technology to shelve it in the past. I don't understand how you can't see that this was not being picked apart.

Well, thanks for saying that. I just think this is interesting stuff, and wanted to share it with everybody. Don't know why everybody gets so mad.

It is. People are interested in it but you just missed a lot of discussions on these type of matters in political threads and other locker room type threads back when gas was going through the roof a couple summers back.

There are a ton of real sharp motherfuckers on here that disagree on even these kinds of matters and how or why we are where we are at now. There are always several points of view on any matter so keep your eyes peeled and you will see what I'm talking about when they hit the board. I will guarantee that it will round out your thinking on some of these matters and in some cases even change your mind on what may be going on. It's happened to me on several issues.

Nope not at all. That's the thing to cling to that can be seriously talked about.

But if you want to discuss the 9/11 stuff you will have to build up the ol' thick skin because to be honest even the smallest mistakes on here will place you directly in the barrel just after everyone has loaded their shotguns. We all take a beating for saying silly things here. I saw one guy just get skewered because he admitted to drinking Firefly Vodka (not a good example I guess cuz that one was deserved) but you get the point, we all dish it out and we all have to take it.

Thank you for being reasonable Ursus.

I find this stuff fascinating. Students at Cal Poly have developed a "car" that achieves 2,752 MPG

http://inhabitat.com/students-build-bla ... 752-3-mpg/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So, why is it that the cars we drive are nowhere near that?

I'm not saying that that a four wheeled vehicle could get even 1,000 MPG, but the point is WE SHOULD BE GETTING WAY BETTER THAN 35 MPG! auto makers aren't even trying to acheive the kind of gas mileage they could reach for the same reason printer cartridges cost almost as much as the printer- as a company, you make more money on the re-occuring sale of ink after two years than you do selling the printer.

Yes, I am saying the auto makers are in bed with the oil companies.

The same application can be made to cars- because it is the same enormous companies and mega corporations who own the auto companies who also profit on gas sales. They have a vested interest in selling as much fuel at the highest cost possible for as long as possible.

Get rid of gas, and you're NEVER going to make a cent again on what was previously multi billion dollar yearly enterprise.

Why is it that almost every car still gets around 30 mpgs after all the advancements we've made in fuel efficiency technology? Certainly a car that got 70 or 80 miles per gallon sold on a lot today would sell like hotcakes - yet no models are available.

I don't know if you remember it but back in the late 70's or early 80's I could swear there were Honda Civics getting about 50 MPG. The thing is we keep giving them (or falling into the gas trap with low prices) the incentive by asking for bigger, more powerful cars. Society has got to take partial blame for what WE ask for.

One thing you can be sure of is that when they figure out how to tax the sunlight and start charging what they need to for water we will be bitching about those prices as well. If society needs something you can be damn sure that there will be a way that it's gonna be monetized to make us paying consumers.

I didn't look at the link but will check it out in a bit cuz I hadn't seen that. It's a good topic and it would have inevitably made an appearace again in June when prices were starting to really hurt again so getting it started now is a good idea. I'm sure you will see many opinions now that you have set the stage. :thumb:

Electrolysis to free hydrogen from water takes energy. So you have to be using some kind of energy to do that to begin with. I was skeptical for that reason so I Googled stuff like "Water Powered Car" and "Water Powered Car" hoax. I think that if you do that sort of thing you will see that there are, at the very least, questions as to whether or not anybody has really developed a system in which someone can run a car on "water"in a cost effective way.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth

That's because you are a Truther. The minute you came on here with that sh!t your credibility went out the effing window, Bubba. I also baited you into admitting you are a general conspiracy theorist, including a belief that we never landed on the moon.

You could come on here and say water is wet and people will call you names because in general you are a dork.

That being said, if the technology is viable, big automakers will initially try to pooh pooh it and even work against it, and then they will slowly come around to working on the tech themselves, and then ultimately they will roll out a water powered car that will be overpriced by about 1000% and runs like sh!t. That's how it works. They are not out to personally fvck you in the a$$, Expando dude, they are out to get your dolllars. There's no sinister plot to turn you into a battery for the machines.

I know I am in the minority here, but I just don't get why more people don't buy diesel cars and automakers make more of them to sell. I have been driving a TDI for years now and won't go back to a gasser until I can't buy one. The fuel is a little more costly right now and kind of takes away it's cost advantage but I personally like the torque and feel of the diesel engine over a gas one any day. My current TDI is an '03 Jetta and I get about 43-46 with it, but I also go about 80-85 down the freeway most of time, it will do better. It also isn't a death trap like some of the cars that get similar mileage. It has ABS, ESP, Side curtain and side impact airbags as well as the standard front ones. VW puts some other good safety features in them as well like steel beams in the doors. They weigh in range of 3000-3500lbs so they are not a tiny compact coffin.

My guess would be emissions, usually. In the case of small trucks it is the also the chicken tax that was imposed as a retaliatory tariff. I need a truck and I would prefer a diesel, but they are only available in full size pickups.
