Hey Coach, how are you affiliated with Butler? I was thinking about you when Butler made their run last year and this year and I'm happy for you. I'm a sucker for the little guy and the underdog, except Eastern Washington. They can suck a mean one.CoachL wrote:dbackjon wrote:Butler goes to the Final Four, again.

In the garbage ass BCS Butler would be playing on December 16th in Shreveport. Watch the refs whistles against Butler and VCU from here on out. They won't let them win.

My older son is in his junior year at Butler (and used to play football for the Bulldogs). Just like my son, I fell in love with Butler during his recruiting visit and have been a huge Butler fan ever since.93henfan wrote:Hey Coach, how are you affiliated with Butler?
My younger son is a freshman football player at Duquesne.

VCU is beating Kansas by 18 in the first half. Could an 8 seed play an 11 seed in the Final Four? I like Kansas a lot but I'm pulling for the underdog on this one. GO VCU!

Re: 2011 March Madness Thread
Could be a fun final four. If VCU and UNC win, I'll be able to root for two mid-majors, Duke's arch rival, or at least get another Big East title so the wolves are off our back a bit in the off-season. It would be win-win-win-win

Bucknell, Bradley, Northern Iowa, VCU...Kansas sure likes to lose to the little schools.

Re: 2011 March Madness Thread
UNI has been involved in two of those losses.Shellin wrote:Bucknell, Bradley, Northern Iowa, VCU...Kansas sure likes to lose to the little schools.
Bucknell went to the NCAA Tournament in Oklahoma City in 2005 but the pep band was away on spring break and the band from UNI generously sat in for the Bison band at the last minute. UNI learned the Bucknell fight song and what not...the rest of that game is history... The Bucknell pep band returned the favor the following year when the Bison returned to the NCAA Tournament in Dallas and played Northern Iowa's fight song.
So Kansas is 0-2 against the UNI pep band...

Re: 2011 March Madness Thread
My poker group does a thing where we each put in $10 and draw teams out of a hat. The best seed I had was #3 Purdue. I never would have bet that my Butler and VCU draws would both be in the final 4. Too bad they have to play each other. My wife does something similar at work and she has both Butler and Kentucky. So we gotta cheer for a Butler win!

Re: 2011 March Madness Thread
I know I'm pretty much preaching to the choir, but...
When was the last time a team from a BCS conference was one of the last 4 teams in and made a run to even the sweet 16? 2 Mid-Major programs have done it in the past 5 years – VCU and George Mason.
Mid-Majors should be getting a lot more at-large berths than teams from the BCS conferences. A 2nd or 3rd team from the CAA, Horizon, MVC, etc. is much more likely to make a run than the 6-11th teams from the BCS conferences.
All the BCS teams are WAY overrated. They schedule to inflate their records with all home games out of conference. Then if they go .500 in-conference they have a legit shot of making the field. This needs to change. BCS conference teams should be required to play true road games out of conference.
The ACC’s 12 teams played 26 true road games this year. That’s an average of 2.15 games per team. Duke played 0 true road games.
The Big East’s 16 teams played 26 true road games. That’s an average of 1.6 per team. Pitt, Notre Dame, Syracuse played 0 true road games. South Florida, Villanova and Rutgers were the only teams that played more than 2 true road games. They played 3 each. USF played 4. And lost all 4 to the likes of Cleveland State, Akron, UCF, FAU. The 11 teams that made the tourney played 15 true road games. Just over 1 per team.
The CAA’s 12 teams played 61 true road games. That’s an average of 5 per team. And every team played at least 2.
The BCS teams load up their OOC schedule with home games and maybe 1 or 2 road tests. This inflates their records and rankings. They then are able to beat other ranked teams in conference who have done the same thing.
It’s a joke.
This needs to change or the selection committee needs to take this into effect. Teams like Cleveland State, St Marys, Wichita State, Missouri State should have all gotten in over the likes of Clemson, Missouri, USC, Georgia, Penn State, Michigan State.

Re: 2011 March Madness Thread
But the majors have that leverage. You don't see SEC football teams schedule tough OOC teams for the same reason. They know they can get away with scheduling home games against the Sun Belt and FCS with no harm done.jcmanson wrote:I know I'm pretty much preaching to the choir, but...

Anybody besides Silenoz have a viable bracket? Out of 45 entrants in our pool only two have UConn (in 15th and 29th place currently), and no Butler/VCU/UK picks at all.Silenoz wrote:Hooray, won a bracket pool for the first time since the '90s on the backs of Kentucky and Uconn
Re: 2011 March Madness Thread
My # of picks correct was pretty low (terrible even), yet still places me at 97 percentile on yahoo. I'd wager this is probably the worst year for brackets in a long time, if not ever.ASUG8 wrote:Anybody besides Silenoz have a viable bracket? I'm one of those with UConn in the final four - have them losing to KS for the national title...
things were looking so good for me until yesterday...
as it is - i'm happy two middies are in the final four... it's good for the game

I didn't fill out an official bracket but I do have 2 of the final four (UCONN and Bulter - yes I put them there again and I don't know why).ASUG8 wrote:Anybody besides Silenoz have a viable bracket? Using Yahoo's scoring system and checking my bracket I'd be in the top 500 or so.
Figures the one year I don't actually do a real bracket I'd have ag reat year.
