CAA MIGHT NOT have seen the end of Ben Finney.
After these last two years CAA schools are probably happy to see this year's ODU Men's Basketball senior class graduate. After winning two straight conference championships, two NCAA tournament appearances, and roughly 95 wins in 4 years, the Monarchs will say good-bye to Frank Hassell, Darius James, and Keyon Carter. However, fellow classmate Ben Finney MIGHT stick around and use his last year of eligibility to play football at ODU.

It's pure speculation right now but if Ben does decide to stick around an extra year it will be a great addition to the roster. The former football recruit who had offers to Virginia Tech and some SEC schools has an open invitation to talk to Monarchs Football Head Coach Bobby Wilder. FWIW, he also had other offers to Maryland, North Carolina, and Temple.

Monarch fans are READY for some serious football. Bring it on bitches!I could see Ben having a great year for ODU Football and being remembered as one of the most accomplished athletes in Monarch history. Back-to-back CAA Basketball Champion and NCAA Division 1-AA National Football Champion.

Never heard of the guy. Seriously, he did play for ODU this year? Wow, go figure. Did he flop a lot in basketball? If so, it may be hard to identify him from all the other bodies from ODU that will be laying prone on the field come Sept 24th. Beware AP.

I assume you don't go to many basketball games at Delaware? Anyway, Finney met with football head coach Bobby Wilder today and decided to pursue a basketball career overseas instead.
Disappointed he decided to pass on the opportunity to play football at ODU but definitely not surprised with his decision for obvious reasons. Reports were that he would have played H-back but he played WR in high school. Either way there is disappointment but not concern since the Monarchs have a lot of depth at both positions so its not like Wilder needed him desperately.
As for Monarchs "laying prone" on the field on 9/24...that won't happen. ODU might be overmatched in regards to talent but physically I can promise that ODU will be just as tough as their CAA opponents this year. Don't read this out of context and assume I'm saying we will go undefeated, we won't...we'll be very fortunate to win 2-3 games in conference this year but we won't be a team filled with a bunch of softies this year. The team has worked very hard this offseason getting ready for the 2011 season just like every other team.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder who finished his basketball career last week, would have had one year of football eligibility if he had chosen to play. Finney informed football coach Bobby Wilder of his decision before going public with it.

Agree that ODU will be tough, particularly after the whistle has blown, when backs are turned and when passing in front of the fans of the other team seated in the stadium...futureodualum11 wrote:I assume you don't go to many basketball games at Delaware? I think it'd be better if it was rhetorical. Don't want this thread getting off topic. As for what leadbolt said about ODU's toughness especially "after the whistle", I really hope those types of issues are not a problem this year. I think people really started to notice when we played the Tribe last year because it was such a big game and it meant a lot to ODU to play well in that game.
