Rationally looking at the situation from the last 2 years, it's not the CAA's fault that they got 5 bids.
2008 - Elon shot themselves in the foot against Liberty and SDSU, NAU, FU, etc. didn't do well enough down the stretch to secure a 3rd bid for their conferences. It probably came down to Maine, W&M, and Liberty. I would have preferred Liberty just to spice things up but couldn't fault the Committee for selecting Maine. Maine ended up with one of the worst 1st round matchups possible (a running team against a team that was very strong against the run).
2007 - UNH might have been the 16th team selected but they definitely weren't the worst at-large team in the field. And if it hadn't been UNH it probably would have been Villanova. The Big Sky, SoCon, and Valley didn't have a team that was more deserving than UNH or Villanova.
This b!tching also happened several years ago when the Valley/Gateway got 4 bids (from an 8 team league).

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

Would have loved to have been able to open up our passing game against UNI.

Article from 2015: CAA EXPANDS TO 30!!!
After grabbing the entire slate of available at-large bids, the CAA has decided to expand to 30 teams to give all "elite and deserving," teams a shot of an at-large bid. "If defending national champion Appalachian State didn't win the Southern, they wouldn't have been in this year, and thats just not right," said 112 year-old CAA commissioner Tom Yeager.
Joining the expanded CAA:
Appalachian State University
Cal Polytech
Coastal Carolina University
Furman University
Georgia Southern University
Hampton University
Lehigh University
Liberty University
NDSU
SDSU
UC-Davis
University of Montana
University of Northern Iowa
University of Southern Illinois
Wofford College
Youngstown State University.
"We are going to set up 3 divisions of 10 teams, with each division earning an automatic birth," said Yeager. "We are still working on how to do cross-divisional rivalries, which is just plain difficult with that 11-game only regular season."

Re: CAA Staying Together
Honestly i dont see this lasting very long. 14 schools i think is way to many and they will try to do it but eventually i think the teams that are football only schools will be kicked out and would form their own conference. This is what i could see:
CAA
-Delaware
-Georgia State
-Hofstra
-James Madison
-Northeastern
-Old Dominion
-Towson
-William&Mary
This would create a balanced number of teams in the CAA also making scheduling easier and allowing more non conference games to be added. And also would put an end to 4 or more CAA teams getting into the playoffs.
North Coast Conference
-Richmond
-UMASS
-Rhode Island
-Maine
-New Hamphire
-Villnova
Though slightly smaller then the CAA it still has six teams which would give them an auto bid and with the increase of 1-aa schools on the east coast this would leave a few more spots that could be filled. Also if teams like Albany or Fordham that would like to go into a harder conference this would give them a chance to.

So, if five teams from these two conferences make the playoffs...or five teams from the current CAA make the playoffs...what's the difference???SUUTbird wrote:Honestly i dont see this lasting very long. 14 schools i think is way to many and they will try to do it but eventually i think the teams that are football only schools will be kicked out and would form their own conference. Why focus on that? You made a honest try with your break-up, but it won't happen that way because of historic and academic ties between some of the schools...
I had hoped the ADs would have started a study with the goal of eventually fixing this issue...they didn't, and we've got what we got...

You could probably add Charlotte to the North Coast Conference, just b/c they're adding football and currently don't have a home for that sport. Maybe the A-10 will responsor football????

Re: CAA Staying Together
There would have to be a big change in A-10 leadership for that conference to ever take back football...they never put much time or effort into promoting football...basketball is their thing...ATrain wrote:You could probably add Charlotte to the North Coast Conference, just b/c they're adding football and currently don't have a home for that sport. Re: CAA Staying Together
Can any of you imagine the CAA being 1/2 as good as they think that they are......they would be unbeatable, if it were true.

Give that number to your AD...set up a game, since we have an opening yet to fill...and we'll find out...
