Gas up 33 cents in two weeks - new record

Post by YoUDeeMan »

Gas has just had the highest 2 week rise in its history, easily surpassing Bush's increases.

I blame it on Obama and the Democrats...with their wars going all all over the planet and their close links to their oil friends Soros and Co.

Obushma...he is George Bush all over again...on steroids.

Hard to believe gas was $1.50/gallon two years ago. The good old days.

I thought it seemed weird, jumping up at the rate of 4c/day.

The ARCOs in Lodi now stand at roughly $3.79, and the Shells (which recently bought at least two of our USA stations) all have two grades over $4. Egad!

Do we actually KNOW whether dipping into the strategic oil reserves will have an actual impact on the price at the pump?

When it was dipped into last time (two or three years ago) it was credited with only a 10 cent drop in the price of gas at the pump. Obviously, just the act of tapping into it isn't enough on its own to make a real difference (gas at $3.90 versus $4.00 a gallon isn't going to make people feel a lot better). The plus side for tapping into it is at least the President is seen as doing something so public perception-wise it's a good thing even if it doesn't really help the price enough. The price is going up on perception anyway, so one way to battle it is with perception going the other way.

Just ride it out, the dire predictions have never played out to the level of the hype in the past, and this market is just like the last go-round, largely fueled by speculators like Cleets, Inc. who have moved their money into oil and commodities lately.

Best response from consumers now is simply do everything you can to cut your consumption, even by small increments. These things can have a pretty strong undercurrent going, but consumers must act to reveal it.

Gas is around $3.20 here right now.

Since the last gouging I have replaced my 33 mpg car with a 38 mpg car, parked my 16 mpg pickup and bought a small two wheel drive pickup that turns in 28 mpg.

Let 'er rip, I am burning about 2.5 gallons a day on my 90 mile round trip commute.

I don't think it was used last time. IIRC the last time would have been after Katrina which was 5-6 years ago now?

Correct, it has been dipped into 3 times since 1990.

tapping the strategic oil reserve for this would incredibly stupid...

tapping the reserve after Katrina made sense (in fact, that's why we have it) it's for shortages - not high prices.

this price spike is the price we in America pay for the revolutions in the middle east... meh.

here's what boggles my mind... americans shit their pants over rising gas prices - and yet, even at .33/gallon increase what does it really amount to? $3.30/week for someone who burns 10 gallons a week...

whoop-dee do.

I understood that there was an interruption to regular levels because of what's going on.

depends on what you mean by 'regular levels'

we're not talking about oil embargo levels - nor are we talking about post katrina/rita "refining capacity down by 50%"* levels either

arbitrary number grabbed from thin air to signify "significant"

Don't worry, guys. Some rednecks in Georgia are going to pray for the price to drop. Everything will be fine!
DUBLIN, Ga. (WMAZ) -- A Dublin church group plans to gather pumpside Saturday and pray for the gas prices to drop.

It's an effort started by the Beacon of Light Christian Center in Dublin.

"I believe if we come together and pray as a community we can really make something happen," says the church's pastor, Marshall Mabry.

Mabry says he can remember when gas jumped from under $1 to $1.50 and says, now, with prices reaching almost $4, he says he plans to ask God for help.

And this isn't the first time his congregation has gathered at Kroger's gas pumps.

"It's the third time," he says, "I want to start a movement. I want this to go from Dublin to Macon, from Macon to Atlanta and all over the country."

"I can't see how a country like ours, that could put people on the moon like it's nothin' and people in outerspace like it's nothin' can't make some kind of fuel that would run in these cars that wouldn't cost very much money," says Thomas Didonato, who paid $3.64/gallon on Monday.

Didonato was just one of a line of people who paid nearly $4 per gallon.

"It's not a white issue, not a black issue, it's a green issue," says Pastor Mabry of the escalating prices.

"If it doesn't drop down to nothin' but ten cents, I'm happy with that. But what I really want to believe God to do is drop down $1.50, hey, I'm glad with that, too," says the pastor.

And it was probably $6-7 a gallon in Europe. Somehow they've survived.

I was serious earlier when I said it was $1.50 only two years ago. I checked my receipts and I filled up for $1.47/gallon in December '08. Obama might get a three-bagger on his watch. $4.50 gas is not that far away.
