2011 Weber State Recruit Class Tops the Big Sky
With five three-star and two-star rated blue chippers on espn's recruiting list, Weber State's Class of 2011 tops the Big Sky conference in recruiting.
Three-star recruits, defensive end James Washington (6'4", 250) and quarterback Ben Maraz (6'2", 215) were rated 78 and 77, respectively, by espn's experts.
Defensive tackle Connor Myers (6'1", 282) notched a 73, while offensive guard Christopher Thee (6'0", 259) and wide receiver Barrington Collins (5'8", 177)each earned a 69 rating.

As usual, Coach Ron McBride snatched some of the cream of Utah's crop while continuing to reach his recruiting tentacles across the country to Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Oklahoma and even Canada. Notably, four of Mac's five most highly rated recruits came from out of state.
Weber and National Champion Eastern Washington were the only two BSC football programs to snag more than two players from espn's star-rated list. Each garnered five.
Weber and Idaho State were the only BSC schools to capture espn three-star recruits. Defensive end Ben Heimuli (6'1", 225), rated 76, signed with the Bengals.

But the ONLY reason anyone other than Sac gets the nod THIS year is that we lost one we thought we had in the bag to the flyboys. Man, if he had to go the military route, why the cr@p couldn't he have picked a DECENT place like Annapolis?!?

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

None of the rating services are all that great, but espn does a better job than the others among the FCS candidate pool. I do note that Sac State got a couple of 70-point two-stars in QB Jake Geringer (6'2", 200) and WR Justin Cox (6'2", 180).
What recruit slipped the noose?

Re: 2011 Weber State Recruit Class Tops the Big Sky
I don't know anything about "stars," but we lost Folsom QB Dano Graves to AFA. He almost single-handedly won the D-II state championship (currently, D-II is better than D-I in Cali), a 48-20 shellacking of Gardena-Serra. Graves was named Mr. Football for Cali. Again, I don't understand this "stars" system, but Rivals is apparently tagging Graves as a 2-star recruit to AFA, but Rivals users rate him 4-star. I could do without the earrings (which he'll have to ditch at AFA), but this kid is a freaking stud if there ever was one. Understandably, Hornet fans are mighty disappointed.
BTW, I in no way intended to diss Weber's recruiting class. It's just that everything I heard on SacBuzz about how good Graves is and that he was really leaning toward Sac makes his loss disappointing. On the other hand, you're right that we did get some good pickups. Graves would have made it over the top, IMO.

Condolences for the recruiting loss. I expected to see a better class based on your coach's past recruiting performances, but the two studs you did snag look to be impressive indeed!SuperHornet wrote:I don't know anything about "stars," but we lost Folsom QB Dano Graves to AFA. No offense taken whatsoever with regard to Weber's recruits.
