Start-up programs

Post by ODUalum11 »

Any new programs this year in 2011? I know there's UTSA but anybody else?

Couple years ago it was ODU, last year it was Georgia State and Lamar (?).

I know UTSA has FBS aspirations....

I know they will play their home games here....

...home of a FBS bowl game, I think the Army High School All-American Game one year, and numerous Final Fours.

I know this guy will be their head coach, a BCS National Champion and runner-up....

I think UTSA should no doubt have success right out of the gate, obviously they came to ODU and talked to our athletic department to see how we built our program from scratch  ;), they have a pretty big name coach, they are located in a state where high school football is a religion and a recruiting hotbed and I think they've announced they will be FBS by their 3rd year.

I love ODU Football, I think the way we are going about on building our program is the correct way but too be honest, I am extremely jealous of their football program. :notworthy:

UTSA has more than FBS aspirations. They have already accepted an invitation from an FBS league.

Yeah, I forgot they accepted an invitation to the WAC back in November.

The only other college beginning play this year is Sienna Heights Univ in Adrian, MI.
This year the Saints will play a limited junior varsity schedule and 2012 full NAIA schedule.

You think UTSA will have success out of the gate...think again. They loaded their first year with some decent FCS teams but, mainly SLC. (the good ones are all, conspicuously, away games.) Several DII's and NAIA's. However, some of their players haven't played football in 2-3 years...just waiting. And none of them has played a down of college football.

The Alamo Dome is 15 miles off campus and will be grossly under-attended. It will look bad. They may be in a decent media market but UT is still their parent school and just up the interstate. SA is a UT stronghold and TXST has tons of alum there too.
Recruiting hotbed? Sure. Everywhere in TX is a recruiting hotbed but I do believe TXST out recruited them and our staff only had 11 days to do so.
