There might be a linching in Missoula if the griz miss the playoffs again huh? How many starters the griz losing?SouthDakotaGrizzly wrote:Presumably. He was the big recruit Pflu brought in last year. 6A player of the year in Oregon his senior year running an offense similar to what Pflu would like to get going at UM. But, Pflu rather inexplicably burned his redshirt this year and then Johnson hardly ever played...would go in for a series or two, hand off a few times and maybe throw a few short passes, so he's still an unknown. After the season, Pflu said that he'd like to bring in at least one QB recruit (UM has a verbal from a kid from Hawaii) and one drop down to create some competition, but Johnson would seem to have the upper hand since he's been in the system for a year. The Griz also have Gerald Kemp, who'll be a junior and was recruited by Hauck as a QB, but he switched to RB this past season and Pflu apparently wants to keep him there (this, along with pretty much everything else, is a bone of contention on egriz).TheHerd wrote:
I take it Jordan Johnson is the new QB? Thats a hell of a first start! I am thinking his eyes might just be a little big on that day.

The lynch mob was damn near mobilized this year. Well maybe that's a little strong. There seem to be two factions: one that wants Pflu's head on a stick and another that believes Pflu deserves a shot to implement his system with his guys.TheHerd wrote:There might be a linching in Missoula if the griz miss the playoffs again huh? I don't know the exact numbers off the top of my head, but obviously the big losses are Reynolds at RB and Stoll at S. Roper is gone too, but not sure if anyone considers that a "loss" at this point. They return a good portion of the O and D lines and some good talent at WR.
I mentioned Pflu was looking for a drop down QB above. Rumors are flying about Tate Forcier, who recently left Michigan: http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.co ... t/related/. From the article: "The speculation making the rounds is that Forcier will ultimately transfer to Montana to continue his collegiate career." So maybe Johnson won't be starting at Tennessee next September...

StonyBrook opens 9/3 at UTEP- Doubt we get a W but it should be closer than our beating at USF this year.
On 9/10 we take on Buffalo that could be a win. Not sure how they will be this year.
Future games 2012 at Army and 2013 at Boston College. We will be palying two BCS/FBS games going forward so stay tuned for updates on both those seasons. Not bad considering 5 years ago we were still in the NEC.

Re: FBS games for 2011
San Diego State first game of season. Beat them the last two times, but they are a far better team this time around. Still think we have a chance, but it will take perfect execution and plenty of emotion to pull off 3-pete.
Northern Illinois week 4. Very difficult game to say the least. NI finished 11-3 and won the Humanitarian Bowl in convincing fashion. They return many players and are being talked about as a top 20 FBS team. Again, with perfect execution, it can be done.

Re: FBS games for 2011
We lose 13 total seniors and 10 starters total: 5 on offense and 5 on defense.TheHerd wrote:How many starters the griz losing?
The good news, however, is that 3 of these starters (2 on defense and 1 on offense), were out for a long stretch of the season, and a ton of younger players got playing time.
The only real unknowns and holes we have to fill would be:
QB - According to Pflu, we only have 2 QBs on the whole team right now, assuming the guy from Hawaii is redshirting. This is going to be the make or break for our season. Jordan Johnson looked good in fall camp, but not at all when he was in the games. Wish we had him redshirted.
Safety - Someone is going to have to step up to fill in here. Jimmy Wilson had to rotate in at the end of the year, and did a fantastic job. I'm kind of unsure about the guys we have coming up.
Center - Our starter leaves, so we'll have a new one next year.
We lose three guys from the D-Line, but two were starters, and both were out considerable time in 2010 with injuries.
And that's about it.
As far as Defense goes, if Kevin Frank Jr. is as good as he looks, he and Trumaine Johnson will arguably be the best corner combo in the FCS. We had so much rotation on the D-Line that I'm not worried, and all our LBs are coming back, including several that were out with injury.
Offensively our skill players (sans QB) are going to be outstanding. Our WR corps can only get better, and our two RS Frosh RBs, while a different mold than past Montana RBs, look to be very fast and shifty. The O-Line was starting to gel at the end (Chase Reynolds had two 170+ yard-games to close the season) and got enough rotation to hopefully end up solid.
If we get the QB position figured out (and knock off the fucking turnovers

Forcier would be a hell of a player to fall into your lap and from what I seen of Roper I wouldn't miss him if I were a griz fan.SouthDakotaGrizzly wrote:The lynch mob was damn near mobilized this year.
